I've been wanting to write a songfic for Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men, and a fic focusing on the fact that all 4 of the Kitagawa Daiichi gang are like??? Really messed up??? So I merged them because I realized how well they'd fit together.
This is going to break your heart. I've had writers block kinda for ages and this is what finally dug that out so there'll be. So much ~angst~. Not really any comfort whoops; though there will for sure be fluff about these four in the future, eventually.Hey!
Hey!
Hey!The end of the year was approaching quickly, to the delight and dread of Iwaizumi Hajime and Oikawa Tooru. With it would wrap up their last year of middle school, their starting into high school coming up shortly. It seemed obvious why they felt the way they were.
I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear
The stairs creak as you sleep, it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyesIt should have been. It was not.
And some days I can't even dress myself
It's killing me to see you this wayThey should've been excited at growing up, maturing, starting a new school and a new (powerhouse) volleyball team. And they were, but it was overtaken by the excitement at being away. Away from Kitagawa Daiichi, away from their Coach, who berated and belittled and all around tortured the team. Who made them work 'til they puked, and then shouted at them to get up and work more. Who very nearly caused Tooru to quit volleyball, one of his favorite hobbies since primary school. Who wasn't above raising a hand to his team, not even the first years. Who got away with it all because the school didn't care so long as the volleyball team still brought sponsors, and it did.
They should be dreading starting something new, something unknown. They should not be dreading what will happen to their kouhai without them to look out for them, to distract them. To leave it to the second years to be forced to bear the brunt of punishments as the new oldest students, to try and cover for them, to have to put on the fake smiles while icing bruises from dives and coaches alike. New teammates who would move up into middle school, forced into the hellhole they weren't planning on being a part of, that they shouldn't have to be a part of.
And gods the first years. Anyone could see that Kageyama was autistic, and just because he was a volleyball prodigy so many assumed he did poorly in school on purpose. Tooru and Hajime used to too, until study sessions that ended in tears, and meltdowns at games, and other things that they made their goal to help with that their coach would only hit and bench him for.
Kunimi was finally beginning to open up, push aside his social anxiety and have fun with his team, weekly movie nights being a big deciding factor to that. The movie nights would surely continue, Hashikami would make sure of that when he took over as captain, but Kunimi had just barely been able to start speaking up in front of them now; the third years leaving, plus no longer being the most protected against coach (in fact, knowing them, at the very least Kageyama and Kindaichi would stand up for any newcomers), it was a recipe for disaster.
Speaking of Kindaichi, he was the one they were the least worried about, but that didn't mean they weren't worried. Always an antagonizer, and an overly protective one at that, he was sure to piss coach of more and more now that Hajime wasn't holding him back, which only spelled trouble.
'Cause though the truth may vary, this
Ship will carry our
Bodies safe to shoreThey had to leave, they could only hope to reconnect in high school.
