𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗘 𝗙𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 than the couple had anticipated, the bottoms of the shoes crushing against the fallen fall leaves, and the occasional whirring of the wind was the only noises as they walked.

Hand and hand, they walked down the streets of Kildare Island, both of their footsteps coming to a halt as they glanced at the empty dock.

JJ led them towards it, griping her hand tightly as he hurried down the pavement steps, laughter spewing out of their mouths as they nearly collapsed on the flooring.

With their hands till interlocked, they stood before each other, his happy expression dying down the longer he had stared into her hypnotizing eyes.

"JJ? What's wrong?" Aria asked, sensing his sudden mood switch, her own expression falling.

He swallowed, "where were you last night?"

"I was with Rafe." She told him truthfully, his tight grip becoming loose as his hands fell back to his sides.

A look of defeat washed across his face, his eyes softening.

"No." Aria shook her head, grabbing his hands once more, "I thought it was Wheezie. He lied, stole her phone and texted me. He tried to kill me, JJ."

"What?" He furrowed his brows, "he what?"

Aria sighed, flashbacks of last night buried in her mind on replay, "we started to argue, and he just got really mad. I ran. I got to a dead end, and then we argued some more until he flipped me around, against a bucket of water. He held me there until I was knocked unconscious."

"I wasn't there." JJ mumbled, "you needed me and I wasn't there. You could be dead."

"But I'm not." She cooed, bringing her hand up to his cheek, he moved away.

He shook his head, "no. I'm never there. Is this what's really best for us?"

The question had sunk to her heart, her face scrunching up in confusion, "JJ. We're fine. What are you talking about?"

"With everything going on lately. We don't have time for us anymore, Aria. Before Ward we were able to be together with no worry. This feels more like a responsibility." His words shattered her, his eyes planted on the dark sky behind her.

He couldn't even look at her. It was breaking him so much he couldn't even look at her.

"Where is this coming from?" Aria asked, her voice breaking as she spoke, "we were just fine two days ago. Did i do something?"

"No. This is to stressful for the both of us. We both know you deserve better than this, than me." JJ huffed.

Aria parted her lips to speak but nothing came out, she stayed frozen, flicking her eyes between his.

"That's not what I want. You don't get to choose what I deserve and what I don't. You're the only
person getting me through this, JJ!" Aria cried out, clutching his hands, desperate to feel his comforting touch.

JJ shook his head, bringing his hands up to push the fallen strands behind her ears gently, "you have to let me go, baby."

"No, no, no." She croaked, "please. You're all I have. You promised me you wouldn't leave me. Please."

"I can't keep that promise anymore. I can't even keep you safe. This is to much." He laid his lips gently on her beating temple.

Arias eyes fluttered shut at the contact, her hands gripping onto his muscled shoulders as salty tears ran down her pink cheeks, "please don't leave me."

"I don't have any other choice, baby. This is for the best. We were never meant to be. And if we are then we'll find each other again. Maybe in another life." JJ sighed, his own eyes shutting as the warmth was bouncing off the girl before him.

"Maybe." Aria kept her voice barely above a whisper,
hoping that this was all just a dream.

His fingers slid down her bare arms, goosebumps arising on her skin. He clutched her smaller hand,
littering kisses on her knuckles, he wrapped his fingertips around the silver ring.

Aria scrunched her face up as she felt the cold jewelry slid off her finger, it was to much.

"For the best." JJ cupped her chin, her eyes slowly blinking open as his thumb rubbed her skin.

"I'll love you forever, JJ." Aria smiled sadly, sniffling as she dried her falling tears.

He nodded, pressing his lips to hers, this was a goodbye. Maybe not a full goodbye but it was one for now.

"Take your eyes off of me so I can leave." He pleaded, his eyes darting between her glossy ones, "I'm far too ashamed to do it with you watching me."

Aria nodded, letting her hands fall back to her sides in defeat, she slowly turned, her back facing him now.

JJ took once last glance at her, slowly backing away before turning his own back to her, he was letting go.

Silence came among her as she stood frozen, tears running down her damp cheeks, wind blowing her hair around, her shoulders shaking along with her quivering bottom lip.

She turned. He was gone. He walked out of her life and she did nothing to stop him.

She fell to the ground, her back hitting the wooden bench behind her, her knees came to her chest as she held herself into a ball.

Her head fell back, tears still freely rolling down her face. She had lost him, he was really gone this time.
