Chapter 16: A Thousand Secrets & A Million Questions

I wanted to believe that Liv hadn't lied about what really happened in the hall after Amber cast that spell on her, but my gut told me that she did. I wanted to trust her, I really did, but how could I when she was keeping things from me?

Daisy, my wolf, snorted. Look who's talking!

I rolled my eyes at her, but didn't say anything. She was right, I do have more than enough secrets that I'm keeping from her. So I guess she does have the right to keep one from me.

To be honest, Liv lying about what happened to her in the hall was the least of my worries right now...

Since the attack on the pack two days ago and the Nova Sanction coming into discussion, Daisy and I have been on edge like never before.

It wasn't a coincidence that Olivia was the only one who saw Nova when she was in the woods. Nor was it a coincidence that they sent those rogues just three months before Olivia's eighteenth birthday. They were up to something, and not knowing what it was, was killing me.

There were some unknown variables at play, and we needed to figure out what or who they were.

Even after having that piece of shit locked away in the dungeon for the past two years, we were still nowhere close to figuring out who helped him and his companions onto the pack lands, how they found us, and how they knew about Olivia. We've been hitting dead ends for years, and he isn't talking, so naturally, Daisy and I are starting to get restless.

To add fire to the fuse, Liv turns eighteen soon, which means that her and Kyson's powers will come in, they'll get their patterns, and find out about my family's lineage, and what it means for the both of them. And not just that, but the truth about me and my friends' pasts, how it affects them, and that we've been lying to them their whole lives about who and what they are.

It hurts my heart that we brought them into this world, knowing how fucked up our pasts were, and that we were still in hiding and technically on the run. And it hurts me even more, knowing that it's only going to get worse for Olivia after she turns eighteen and shifts for the first time. Daisy and I are terrified of what's to come.

We just have to have faith that none of this will blow up in our faces. Daisy tiredly sighed. She was tired of telling me the same thing, and honestly, I couldn't blame her.

Daisy's been telling me for years that I should tell our kids about our past, but every time I've made an excuse not to. But how could I? I'm not proud of my past decisions, and I'm aware that my friends and I fucked up royally when it came to how we went about so many things all those years ago.

Just imagining what my children will think when we tell them the truth about what we've done, and how this war and feud with the Nova Sanction is entirely our fault, strikes so much fear into my heart. I don't want my kids to see me as a monster and a homewrecker, even though that's how I feel.

The only thing we can do is hope for the best, Dilly. No, you aren't perfect, and you may have made some shitty decisions, but the only way to know for certain if they'll be disappointed in us is to tell them and let them decide for themselves how they feel. Daisy reasoned. Besides, I, for one, am tired of hiding who I really am from my pups! I want them to see the real me when I use my element, and to know where I come from! I want them to remember our tribe with us, instead of having to mourn them in secret with Broady and our friends every year on our birthday!

I mentally sighed. I know Dais. I'm sorry. I want them to remember our tribe, too. But I'm-

I know, I know... You're scared. Daisy cut me off. But you can't be scared forever, Daffodil. Otherwise, we really will lose our pups by lying to them their whole lives about who they really are. Especially Olivia... And neither of us wants that.
