The silence

            We have been driving for a couple of hours, not finding anything, just sand and bushes, some dead trees. I looked at everyone, they were sleeping in the back except Carlo. He has been awake since we started driving, been watching me now and then.

I looked at him for a couple of seconds and then went back to driving ''You can stop watching me now''

He chuckles ''Maybe I like watching you''

My eyes widened and I blushed ''Not creepy at all''

He laughed and smiled at me still watching me. Went by a couple of minutes when he cleared his throat ''So... Where are we going?''

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair ''I... I don't know'' I checked how much gas we still had ''We don't have a lot of gas either, maybe like a couple of hours or less and then we are out of it'' 

I heard him sigh ''We haven't seen anything. Like dead land or something. No signs, no animals, not even wind''

I nodded '' It's so weird... Maybe look in the glove box, maybe there's something useful''

He nodded and opened the glove box, looking through it while I continued driving and looking for any sign of anything. Suddenly it went quiet. I looked at Carlo, he was looking at something ''What's wrong?''

He said while taking it out ''It's a gun''

My eyes widened ''What?''

He took it out and showed me. It was a gun, a 9 mm Glock. 

He suddenly smirked ''This could be useful you know''

I looked at him with raised eyebrow ''Fine... But keep it hidden''

He nodded and stuffed it in the waistband of his pants.

I looked outside and what I saw shocked me, I stopped the car abruptly and everyone woke up 

Cathrine muttered ''What the hell happened?"

I pointed to the sign outside ''Look!'' I opened the car doors and rushed across the road to the sign, Carlo, and Samuel following me. I looked up at it, it said 'KEEP OUT'

I scratched my head ''Keep out''

Carlo said behind me ''If it says Keep out, that means that there's something or someone up ahead, we have to keep driving''

I nodded when suddenly Samuel ran in front of me almost falling ''No, no. We can't go there. Don't you know if it says 'KEEP OUT' we shouldn't go there? Maybe the thing is dangerous''

I sighed ''I know, but do we have a choice, Adrian is hurt, we need food and water and gas will soon run out''

I walked back to the car and opened the door to the back seats, Adrian is awake and Cathrine is talking to him while Christina is sleeping.

I whispered not to wake up Christina ''How are you feeling Adrian?"

He whispered back ''It's better, I feel a lot better. Thank you, Alexa''

I nodded ''Can you sit already?''

He shrugged ''Maybe... I haven't tried. I don't want to wake Christina up. She is quite scary''

We heard from someone ''I can hear you''

I looked at Christina ''Sorry...''

She claimed out of the car and walked towards Samuel and Carlo.

I shrugged and went to the trunk and took out the backpack with medicine and everything else inside. Walked back to the back seat and sat in ''Adrian I need to look at your wound okay?"

He nodded. I gave Cathrine the flashlight and she pointed it towards his leg. I took off the bandage, threw it in a plastic bag. Took off the big plaster, the wound hasn't bled much, which means its healing ''You are lucky Adrian, it's healing'' I said not looking up at him.

He smiled up at Cathrine ''See? It's okay. You didn't kill me''

She nodded still feeling sad. I looked up at her ''Cat... It's okay. He doesn't want to kill you'' I chuckled ''So that's good''

She smiled and went back to looking outside the window. I cleaned the little blood it still had and put on a new plaster and bandage around the leg. I took the old bandage and plaster and put them in the trunk in a trash bag to later find where to throw it out.

I closed the door and let Adrian rest. I walked back to Samuel, Christina, and Carlo, who were talking ''So... What are we doing now?"

They turned to me ''Well...''

I looked at them as if they were hiding something ''What are you guys hiding?" I looked at Christina who was looking somewhere, anywhere but at me, I moved my eyes towards Samuel, he was nervous? Not sure actually, and then finally Carlo. Looking at me without any emotions on his face.

I sighed ''Guys... Tell me''

Samuel looked like he will explode ''CARLOWILLGOBYHIMSELFTOCHECKOUTTHEPLACEAHEAD'' He said it so fast.

I looked at them weirdly before I understood ''WHAT?"

Carlo stepped towards me ''Listen Alexa... All of us can't go. Adrian is hurt, they are tired of all of this, what if it really is something bad there, then something will happen to all of us''

I looked at him ''No''

I turned and walked back to the car. He followed me, grabbed my wrist, and turned me around ''Alexa...''

I looked up at him and wiped a tear that escaped my eye ''No Carlo''

He cupped my face in his hands ''I will go, and no one will stop me''

I didn't say anything.

''Say something Alexa''

I sighed ''I will go with you''

''No''

''Yes''

''No''

''Yes''

''You are not coming with me'' He said seriously.

''I am. But first, how will you get there?'' I asked logically.

He sighed. I continued ''See? Nothing to get there with. We will die here while you get there and come back to get us. You don't know how far it is'' Tears started to fall from my eyes '' I-I can't lose you, Carlo''

He wiped my eyes with his thumb and hugged me, pulling me to his chest. I put my arms around his waist and hugged him tightly. His face was in my neck, I felt his breath on my neck sending goosebumps through my body.

He nodded and whispered ''Okay... Forgive me, Alexa''

I pulled away from him ''Wha-''

I felt something hit my head and then darkness took over.
