Abuja, Nigeria.
January, 2021.

Aslam and Amna spent their last week of December in Marrakech, the travel plan ended up being solo.

Khalthum's wedding with Fuad was set to take place in April. Khalthum traveled to Sweden with Ammi for furniture shopping.

Amna was a bit under the weather since they came back.

She sat on the kitchen counter with her legs tucked under her watching Aslam cook noodles for them.

"Babe, do you want sausages or peppers?" Aslam asked.

"None, I'll just add akabanga. The spice will improve my appetite." She replied.

He served them the indomie in a large bowl with two forks and placed it on the kitchen island in front of her.

He walked to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of ginger and lime sparkling presse and a small bottle of akabanga chili oil then grabbed two glass cups.

After they ate, he gave Amna her vitamins and she giddily rambled on and on about her plans for Khalthum's wedding showing him the options of bridesmaids souvenir packs she wanted to do for them.

Khalthum called her just before boarding her flight, Ammi was heading to Geneva to visit her sister, whose husband is in the foreign service before returning to Nigeria but Khalthum had to come back because she had an appointment with a fashion designer in Lagos- which was hard for her to secure in the first place because of the peak season. They had to get Yasmine to contact her to bring the consultation closer.

When they got ready for bed, she asked Aslam for  water from his side of the bed but before he passed it to her, she ran out of bed to the restroom and wretched her guts.

She threw up the entire noodles she had eaten while Aslam held her hair back, rubbing her back then helped her brush her teeth.

"Let's go to the hospital," he said.

"But I don't want to," she pouted.

"We have to."

"Okay, I've just eaten too much sweet stuff ne yau," she agreed because she knew he wouldn't relent. "Can we go tomorrow please, just give me my melatonin gummies to help me sleep." She said.

Aslam tucked her in bed and put her phone on do not disturb and silent then kept it on the wireless charging pad to charge overnight.

When he woke up for fajr at 5am, she was asleep. He didn't wake her up, he let her sleep a little more and decided to wake her up after he finished praying.

Her phone alarm started buzzing on the nightstand while he was reading the Quran after his morning prayer.

He quickly turned off the alarm then noticed a couple of missed calls. Her mom left 4 calls and 3 from Sa'adah.

His forehead creased up as he wondered why they called so early. Moreover, Sa'adah was out of the country.

Just then a call came through his phone that was on the nightstand by his own side of the bed.

He rushed to pick the phone, muting it before it woke Amna up.

He took a deep breath, it was Mimi. All those calls they left and now Mimi calling him wasn't a good sign.

He answered the phone and put the phone against his left ear, walking out of the room, he carefully closed the door behind him.

"Assalamu Alaikum." He answered.
