It was Aoba Joshai against none other than Karasuno, the team that has Kageyama Tobio as a setter and the team who has a unique quirk performed by Kageyama and the orange haired shorty, Hinata Shoyo. Even though Kageyama was a good friend of Midori, she definitely wanted her brother and Iwaizumi to win the match, after all she is the former member of the team even if it was for just a few months. On top of it Kageyama was her brothers 2nd enemy.
She was watching the match intensely from the bleachers, everyone was cheering and shouting for Sehjou or her brother. It was last set and they were at match point. One thing that Midori noticed was that the whole Karasuno team had a bond between them, they really supported Kageyama and went along with his behavior, never minding his rudeness. Especially Hinata Shoyo, the two had a different bitter sweet relationship which made Midori really happy for Kageyama to finally get his team.
Oikawa set the ball from the right corner, not far away from the net. He received the ball in mid air, changed his form and set the ball, and from no where it Iwaizumi appeared to spike while Oikawa crushed with the chairs in the sideline. The ball was received by Tanaka while Oikawa ran to be in the court. The ball was sent to the other side and was received by the libero of Sehjou but the ball hit the net and was about to fall and score a point for Karasuno, just then Kyotani Kentaro stopped it with his right hand.
The ball was spiked by Kageyama this time but Kindaichi blocked it and was received by Sugawara's forehead. It was time for the ultimate weapon and Oikawa was observing carefully. Kageyama ran to the farthest corner of the court to receive and set the ball while Hinata ran towards the front. Kageyama did his perfect backset and the ball touched Hinata's palm. Oikawa was ready to recieve the ball. The ball passed Kindaichi and Kyotani and Oikawa received it. But the ball flew to his back after getting repelled from his arms and hit the floor at Sehjou's side, winning a score for Karasuno. Final score and Karasuno won.
Midori saw that Oikawa was in the receiving position for like 5 seconds after the ball hit the floor. This was devastating for him and she knew it very well. He was defeated by Karasuno, he was defeated by Kageyama Tobio and she knew he will blame himself for this one even though volleyball is a game of 6 players and if there's a blame then it's on all the 6 of them. But she knew her brother and his insecurities too well.
Karasuno were celebrating there win while there was a gloomy atmosphere on the other side of the court. Midori couldn't take it anymore. While Oikawa and Kageyama were looking at each other and then the captains went to greet the referees, Midori was crying watching Sehjou, especially the 3rd years.
"OI! SEHJOH! OI NI-CHAN! IWA-SAN! MATSU! MAKKI! KINDAICHI! KUMINI! WHAT'S WITH YOUR FACES HA? YOU FUCKING DID SUPER WELL! I'M PROUD OF YOU GUYS!" She shouted with tears running down her cheeks.
"OI TOBI!" Kageyama looked at his middle-school bestfriend "DON'T YOU DARE THINK IT'S THE END! MY NII-CHAN NEVER GIVES UP! HE WILL DEFEAT YOU IN FUTURE!" She shouted and the words that she spoke made Oikawa look at her with wide eyes. His sister was right, Oikawa Toru never gives up. If only he could he would have ran towards his oh-so-lovely sister and hugged her tight, but he stopped himself and smiled at her. Listening to Midori made the 3rd years and Kindaichi and Kumini cry.
Iwaizumi looked at the bleachers in hopes to find his girlfriend with tears running down his eyes but failed. He then saw Midori looking at him, smiling, even though tears were running down her eyes with her nose turned cherry red. Oikawa came towards him and slammed his back. It was obvious to Midori that Oikawa was trying to hold a strong front but in the inside he was as broken as the others. This is why Midori always considered her brother to the best captain, he looked after his team even though he always acted like kid.
The Aoba Joshai team went to eat ramen together. It was the last match with the third years and the 1st years were really sad that they couldn't win. Midori didn't go with them as she didn't want to intervene, she was part of a different team now. She on the other hand went to chat with her childhood bestfriend, Kageyama Tobio.
"Hey Tobi!"
"Hi!" She sat next to him in the bench.
"I'm happy for you" Kageyama looked at her confused
"Not because you won but because you finally found a team you belong to" Her words made everyone shock and they stopped whatever they were doing to listen to her. She looked at Kageyama who was looking at the ground not surprised by her words but rather feeling emotional, like he was about to break into tears. Midori knew how he felt and smiled at him, touching his hand that was lying close to her. Hinata looking at what she just did, felt a pang in his chest.
"Finally you are not being treated like King but just a mere player. You are no longer a dictator Tobi. You needed them more then they needed you. I'm so happy for you." Kageyama pulled her into a hug, nuzzling his head into her neck, taking in her scent.
"And about that orange ball of sunshine..... I ship!" She whispered making Kageyama pull back, shocked and flushed by her comment while she giggled. She looked at Hinata and could feel the happy sunshine ball was down looking at them interact. She skipped towards him making Kageyama nervous on what her next step was about to be.
"Sho-kun!" Hinata was taken aback y the nickname. He looked at her and tried smiling.
"Please take care of Tobi like you do......." She told him and then made an evil smirk "....and in case if you were wondering, me and Tobi are just friends nothing more. So don't worry, I won't come in your way." Hinata froze by her words and blushed really hard while the others started laughing.
"MIDORI BOKE!" Shouted Kageyama chasing Midori while she took shelter in the back of Sugawara who protected her like a mother.
.
She was home and knew that Oikawa was there too. Her parents were in the living room waiting for her to return. They looked at her worried while she gave them a reassuring smile leaving them there. She went upstairs and knocked at Oikawa's door.
"Come-in" She went in and saw her brother sitting in his bed with his arms spread on the bed as if it was supporting his body. She went to him and kneeled down in front of him. As his head was hanging down, they both were face to face. Oikawa tried smiling.
"Let it all out Nii-chan" She said caressing his left cheek. As if in que, Oikawa burst into tears and hugged her tight.
"I-I failed y-you Dori...... Y-you hate me d-don't you?"
"Of course not!"
"I could have received the ball properly"
"Toru! You did your level best. Don't be so hard on yourself. You have your whole life left and you have to defeat Waka-nii and Tobi. I will be watching you! I will watch you like I always did! I will always support you nii-chan and no matter how many times you fall I will still have faith in you. I have faith on you! I believe in you nii-chan! You are the best the way you are. Promise me one day you will defeat them. I will be watching." This made Oikawa smile. He was blessed to have a sister like her and he knew it.
"I promise" He stopped crying and was hugging her tight
"I love you Dori"
"Aww! I love you too Nii-chan"
"By the way something happened" Oikawa looked down shyly.
"What?" Midori asked curiously.
"I kissed............."
