Izzy's POV

"What happened?" I asked my mother. "What's going on? Why do we need to have a family meeting?"

"Because," she responded, "Lucas, Clary, and her mother have brought back some distressing news from Idris."

I knew that Lucas held a Council position in Idris, and he and Jocelyn are there pretty much every single day. I also know that Clary sometimes traveled there to visit them.

I also knew that problems sprouted like weeds there. It must have been really distressing news if we needed to hold a ridiculous family meeting. Even if I did know the reason why they were doing it.

"I'm just saying, we need to consider all of the possibilities!" I heard Lucas yell.

"But that ridiculous!" I heard a good counter from Jocelyn. "They are still very young, and, let's be honest, a little inexperienced."

"Mom!" This time, it was Clary. "Do you think that coming from Edom alive is inexperienced?"

"Yes," she countered, "because you all went down there without our permission!"

At this point, my mother and I entered the study, where Hodge and his bird used to dwell. Memories of him helping us with our studies started to flood my mind, but I did what I've done before; I block them out, hoping that they'll never return and that I have a strong enough wall to keep them out.

"Ugh, Mom, you, Lucas, and Magnus were in trouble! We weren't going to sit around and hope for the best!"

"Don't forget Raphael," Magnus put in.

"Hey, hon, not helping," Alec said kindly.

"That doesn't mean you wouldn't have gotten killed!" Jocelyn returned fiercely.

I had enough of them fighting, but apparently, Jace did too. Though, how he chose to handle it was a little surprising, especially because he's so emotional. Anyone who knows him well knows that.

"Look," he said calmly, but firmly. "We should handle this a little less loudly. You guys are so loud, it's enough to raise the dead." He looked at Jocelyn, "No offense to you."

        She merely huffed in response.

"Now that Isabelle is here," my mother said, looking at everyone, "why don't we explain what is going on to her."

Lucas, usually being the one in charge (oh, and no pun in intended) took charge of the situation.

"We just held a Council meeting with the Clave and all of the representatives," he took a glance at Magnus, "even though someone was late."

"I ran out of green glitter," he said, simply and lazily. "I wasn't really up for looking for a new outfit to match whatever glitter I had left."

        "Magnus, that doesn't matter—"

"Get to the point, Lucas," Jocelyn said softly, seeming to have calmed down from her earlier argument with Clary.

"All of a sudden, one of the Nephilim started spasming, and, afterward, he claimed that he couldn't remember what happened to him. He didn't know why he was on the floor; he said that it felt like he merely fainted."

        "That is odd," I replied.

"And that's not all," Alec said, causing all heads to turn to him.
