I woke up with a start as my alarm blarred in my ear, and I groggily grabbed my phone and dismissed it.
I stretched and yawned, sniffing as I swallowed against the dryness in my throat.
I heard a groan, and I frantically looked around my room to find the source of the sound.
"Vi? Is everything alright?" The voice came from my phone.
Oh. I stayed on call with Clay for nearly 9 hours.
I picked the phone up, putting it to my ear.
"Yeah, everything's alright. I have to get ready for work. Sorry that I woke you." I said, my voice quiet.
"S'fine, I should get up anyways." He said.
Now that I could hear him better, his voice sounded rough and low from sleeping. It made my stomach do cartwheels.
"Are you sure? I really didn't mean to wake you." I said, twisting a thread on my blanket.
"No, no, you're okay. I have to strea- do something. Later today." He stumbled over his words. I took it as him simply being tired.
"Alright. Do you want to stay on call while I get ready?" I asked, moving to get out of my bed. I set my phone down on my vanity, putting it on speaker so I could move around but still hear him.
"Sure, whatever you want sweetheart." He said, sounding very tired.
The pet name made me pause, my heart pounding in my chest. I liked that. A lot.
"Vivian? Are you good? Ah, fuck did I accidentally hang up again-" He said, the sound of sheets rustling.
"I'm still here." I squeaked out.
"Oh. You sound nervous. Is everything alright?" He said, sounding concerned.
I took a deep breath before walking to my vanity, grabbing the phone and bringing it to my ear again. "I liked that." I said, deciding it was important to tell him.
"Like what, sweetheart?" He asked, sounding so very soft and gentle.
"That. I like it when you call me that." I answered, my heart rate picking up.
"Oh, you do?" He said, lowering his voice and speaking closer to the phone. I shivered, his voice doing so many things to me.
"Yeah." I replied, sounding a little bit breathless. Blame it on not quite being completely awake, but the simplest things he was doing made my heart pick up, my body feeling hot.
He simply hummed, the sound slightly muffled by the phone.
God, tonight was going to be hell if it's only 8 A.M. and I was already about to combust from him calling me a normal pet name.
He chuckled, farther away from the phone now. "Don't you have to get ready?" He said, sounding smug.
"I- yeah. Yeah, I do." I said, setting my phone down again before grabbing jeans and a long sleeved v neck shirt.
I quickly removed my clothes, shrugging on the new ones.
I braided my hair, not bothering to do much with it. I did simple makeup, just brows and mascara.
Once I was satisfied with how I looked, I sighed. I heard typing coming from Clay's end of the line, and I picked up my phone and turned the speaker off.
"I've gotta go." I said, grabbing my purse and a pair of Converse.
The typing stopped, and I heard as he picked his phone up and put it to his ear. "Alright. I'll see you later tonight." I could hear the smile in his voice.
