A Love Like This

Chapter VIII

I haven't heard from Vixen all day and was unsure if we were still on for tonight. She hasn't answered any of my calls or texts. I was blindsided by the sudden change because she seemed excited earlier in the day. Instead of dwelling on the issue I decided to pull up on her to see if she could tell me what was going on.

Arriving at her door I rung the doorbell and waited for her to answer. Her car was in the driveway so I figured she was home but after a few minutes passed I wasn't too sure anymore. Maybe Kaiden had came by and scooped her up and she didn't want to mention it to me. Giving her the benefit of doubt that wasn't the case I prepared to leave until I heard the door unlocking.

As the door opened Vixen gradually came into view. Her hair was pulled back into a messy bun, her eyes were red and puffy as if she spent most of the day crying. An oversized shirt adorned her body. Even when she wasn't feeling good she was effortlessly beautiful. Without speaking she stepped aside allowing me to come in.

"Vixen what's going on ? I don't mean to come over unannounced but I wasn't sure if we were still on for tonight" I said shoving my hands into the pocket of my hoodie

"I'm sorry I thought I texted you back" she said in a soft tone "Kaiden came over after you left" She tried to finish her sentence but her words were replaced by tears.

Walking over to her I wrapped her body in arms, pulling her close to my chest. As she snuggled against me I could hear her sniffling quietly. Whatever transpired between them must have done a number on her. This wasn't the sadness she felt when he forget their anniversary, this shit had to be something deeper.

Once she had calmed down enough she brought her head from my chest. Taking my hand she led me up the steps to her room. Following behind her I began to notice a few things were different. The pictures of her and Kaiden that was once scattered around the hallway were no longer there. Boxes marked Kaiden set outside of her room. Did they break up ?

Arriving inside of Vixen's room I watched her crawl into her bed and wrap herself under the plush blanket. Without asking questions I followed behind her. Removing the Givenchy hoodie from my body I placed it on the ottoman that was adjacent to her bed. Kicking off my University Blues I laid in bed beside her. Bringing the blanket over my body I scooted her closer to me, holding her in my arms.

"Kaiden has been cheating on my for a year. He even got the woman pregnant. I only found out because I answered his phone. I can't believe how naive I've been. Ignoring all the signs" she expressed wiping the corners of her eyes

"Ma you're not naive. No one expects someone they love to do hurtful shit to them. It's not your fault you were hoping for the best in him. It's his fault for failing to stay faithful to you" I said as my hand caressed her back.

It amazed me how Kaiden could fumble the bag with someone like Vixen. A woman who obviously puts her everything into anything she does. Whether it's work or relationships.

"Thank you Adrian" Vixen said into my chest

"For what ?" I questioned a little confused

"For being here with me and for actually coming over to check on me. I truly appreciate it more than you know" She said snuggling closer into my chest.

Kissing the top of her head I could hear her lightly snoring. Keeping my hold on her I closed my eyes taking in her vanilla scent. Before I knew it I had drifted off to sleep.

Awakening to a strong arm wrapped around me I snuggled my back into Adrian's chest. I was so emotionally and mentally exhausted that I didn't even realized I fell asleep. Adrian being here made things a lot easier for me. I didn't have to get through this break up alone. It was probably a little awkward for him consoling me after someone that wasn't him hurt me. If it was he didn't let it show.
