Why, Hello!

I had been working on year 11 work when there were two slight taps on my door before it swung in. I looked up and grinned as the visitor came right in and made himself comfortable on the bed beside me.

"Why, hello, Louis. Comfy?" I teased lightly, and he grinned easily.

"Yes, Karli. Thanks for asking." He nestled his hands behind his neck and leaned back against my pillows. I chuckled and closed my books, dropping them on the floor. I turned back around, and he sat up.

"So. Any specific reason you interrupted my studies?" I asked with a wry grin, and he gave a dubious laugh.

"You never study. I was simply saving you from blankly staring at the maths textbook." I hit him lightly on the shoulder, and he chuckled.

"Well, if that's the case, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I have some book-staring I need to do." I pointed to the door with a smirk, and he stood up. However, instead of walking out, he headed over to the small shelves where I kept all of my valuables and memories. He picked up a small black teddy bear, and turned back to me.

"You kept this?" He asked, and I nodded.

"Of course I did. It meant a lot to me then, and still does. Why?" He shrugged and put it back down.

"No reason. But there actually is a reason for my interruption." He said in passing, and I sat up straighter. Louis never actually had a reason for his visits. We always just appeared at each other's houses to break routine.

"And that would be...?"

"I'm going to audition for the X Factor." He said without preamble, face unusually serious. My eyes widened, and my face split into a grin.

"Oh my God! Louis, that's great! When are auditions?" I asked, and he smiled again.

"They start the 9 of July." I looked at my calendar; that was 2 weeks from now!

"What are you going to sing?" I inquired as he again stood, this time wandering over to the shelf where I kept all of my cds and music.

"That's what I need help with. I don't really know. You know music so well, I figured you could help me out." He began to read some of the titles, and I grinned.

"Well, I'm honored. Any suggestions or ideas?" I asked as I walked over, hip checking him so that I could see all of my favorite albums and artists.

"I was thinking something pop, but not too overplayed..." He trailed off with a shrug, and I immediately stopped searching the albums, instead opening my laptop.

"Well, then we'll have to consult my virtual library." I told him as I opened up the iTunes icon. My tangible library was mostly alternative and little-known music. I saved all of the mainstream music for my iTunes library. He nodded, and took a seat on the bed next to me, peering over my shoulder.

"Let us see... what would fit your voice?" I mumbled to myself, scrolling through many artists. Adele, Daughtry, Coldplay, and others all went by, and I clicked and dragged some of the ones I liked into a new playlist. Louis watched intently, sometimes offering a song or two. By the end of my library, we had 23 songs to choose from, and I sat back.

"Okay then. Now it's your turn. Go through these and pick your favorites." I told him, and got up to go get something to drink.

"water, please." he said without looking up, and I smirked. We knew each other like the back of our hands. And nothing would get in the way of that.
