"You can't rely on people who pitied you."

Sam's POV

"Good morning." my co-worker, Paige, greeted as I entered the shop. I was about to go straight to the back room, but I noticed something different.

The walls were coated with stripe pattern wallpapers instead of the usual plain blue color. And there was a new displayed shelf at the far corner full of books. What annoyed me the most was the colorful chairs and tables instead of the plain ones. The shop was really changed into something hideous.

"What's with-", I didn't finish my question when I saw Paige's outfit.

She wore glasses, a button-down shirt, suspenders, capri shorts, and colorful knee socks. She was frowning at me as I looked at her. I was almost gonna stifle a laugh, but then I remembered the shop's tradition.

"Oh no, Its that time of the month already?" I asked Paige.

She sadly nodded, "We found our 1,000 costumer again."

LaYeRs is a small shop but it has five branches all over UK. It's one of the famous bakery shop in UK and earns alot of money every month. Because of that factor, the owner of LaYeRs planned to reward every 1,000 costumer who orders in the shops (which corresponds to one every month here in the London branch). They have two options to choose from. They could receive a monthly free of bakery goods in LaYeRs or they could have the chance to design the shop for a week with a frame entitled of them.

"It's a shame that most people choose attention over food." commented (Paige) the girl who loves food so much. "Who won this time?" I asked. "A nerd, no doubt about it. His frame is over there." she said while pointing at her back.

I planned to check what the costumer really looked like, but Paige beat me to it by giving me my own set of nerd outfit. "Here is your awestruking outfit." she sarcastically said. I checked the contents with a raised eyebrow, "The only thing close to awestrucking here is the glasses." I stated.

"I should probably keep the glasses and throw the rest after this week." Paige said out loud and I nodded.

"Hi, bookworm." I greeted when I went back home. The said bookworm placed the book he was reading ontop of a huge dictionary, when he heard my voice. "Sam you're back, how's work?" Miles asked. "all right", I replied.

I looked at the coffee table in front of Miles, a total of three novels were placed ontop of the huge dictionary, all owned by Jules.

It had been a few days since Miles discovered Jules' bookshelf. After that, reading had been his hobby, and it also improved his knowledge with language. I should probably keep 'bookworm' as his official nickname.

I sat next to him. After taking my shoes, I placed my aching feet on top of the coffee table. Taking my time to relax. Miles looked at the bag which was placed on the floor below me, "What's inside the bag?". "A hideous outfit I have to wear for work." I replied nonchalantly.

I sighed and closed my eyes for a while. "Do you need anything?" he asked me worriedly, "No, I'm just tired."

"Do you need water? I could give you a massage." he insisted. I sighed again, "Why?". He looked at me confusely, "Why the sudden worry about me?" I asked.

When he didn't answered, I continued, "Are you sympathizing me because of my past?" He looked down and didn't respond.

I again sighed. Putting my feet back on the floor, I tried to look in his eyes but he didn't stop staring at the floor. "Miles..." I called but he still didn't budge.
