Chapter 7

“Follow your guts.”

~~~~~
Julie's POV
I was worried for Miles the whole day, after the extreme commotion in the middle of eating breakfast. I tried asking him what happened and who he was shouting at, but he just looked down and continued eating. After he ate, he went to his room and never left it. He never spoke to me after that.
The next day, I took a tray in one of the kichen's shelf and I set it on the countertop. I was planning that after I finished cooking I'll bring the tray full of breakfast in Miles room, because I knew that he won't leave his room after what happened yesterday.
I was about to cook when I heard someone walked down the stairs. I thought it was Sam, but I was dead wrong. The footsteps came nearer and Sam wouldn't go to the kitchen when she knew I was always there. “Can I help?”, the sound of Miles voice made me jumped in surprise. “Am I always that surprising.” he said, and those words really didn't suit his American accent.
I turned around and I saw him smiled, the same smile he did when I reassured him I was okay yesterday. “Well, if you said a quick hello before asking me that I should have not jumped like that.” I said while crossing my arms. He furrowed his eyebrows and he mouthed the word ‘hello’. “Hello.” he greeted teasingly and I rolled my eyes while smiling. It's like he forgotten the whole commotion yesterday.
“Can I help?” he repeated and I nodded. He took the pancake flour in my grasp and he started putting it in a bowl. “What are you doing?” I asked. He looked at me weirdly, “Helping you.” he said. “I thought you'll help me find the ingredients and supplies or help me set the table, those stuff. Not you cooking the pancake.” I said and I regretted it.
But he didn't felt hurt by my words, “I observed you yesterday.” he said simply. “You observed me only for one day-“ I was explaining but he cut me off. “Just trust me.” he said, “and i'm a fast learner.” he added. I sighed and nodded.
I was observing him while I was cooking the bacon, and he exactly knew what he was doing. Sam eventually came down the stairs but before me and Miles can say anything, she immediately ran outside without saying a word.
I looked at where she left. Eventhough we were fighting I felt worried about her. “Is she always like that?” Miles asked me, and I looked away from the spot. The bacons were done cooking and I put it in a plate. “Not really.” I said while I set the plate on the top of the table. He sighed while he put the first batch of mixed flour in the pan.
Seeing his face like that remembered me of what he muttered yesterday.
“Why?”
I don't know why that word made me think about Sam, but it did. Why does she ignore me? Because we are in a fight...But why does she ignore Miles? I don't know.
All I know is that Sam brought him in the house because it was raining and he doesn't have any place to stay. I don't know if they met before, or if they were enemies, or if he did something wrong to her before.
Was she ignoring him because of me?
After the last thought, I unlocked my phone and texted her. Miles set the plate full of pancakes on the table afterwards, and my jaw dropped at what I saw. He didn't made regular pancakes like what I made yesterday. He made chocolate chip pancakes.
“You made chocolate chip pancakes!?” I said in disbelief “How did you even know we store chocolate chips or where we put it?!”. Miles laughed at my reaction and he shrugged.
I took one pancake in the plate and I started eating. It was absolutely delicious. “You're right Miles, you're a fast learner.” I happily said.
***
I came back to reading after I gave Miles the remote.
After we cleaned the dishes, I sat down on my favourite couch at the living room and Miles sat down on the opposite couch. I read a new novel and he sat there awkwardly. I then offered him the remote to spare his time.
He raised an eyebrow at me, and he looked at the remote. I sighed and I pointed at television at the right side of us. He looked at me confusely but he sat down on the couch facing the television.
He tried pressing random buttons until he finally knew how to control it. I peeked outside of my book to the television, and I almost snorted at what he was watching.
“What?” he asked me. “Nothing” I said innocently, “Just read a funny part.” I lied while leaving my gaze at the show 'Family Guy' playing on television. “This is my favourite show.” he said silently but I heard it. Once again, he furrowed his eyebrows, I realize that he usually does that when he was thinking hard.
“Jules?” he called. I looked away from the book, signaling him to continue. “What do you call that word when your body tells you, you have to do that thing because it told you to...What do they say? Follow your guts?” he asked in a slow pace. “The word is possiblyinstincts.” I answered.
“Instincts.” he mumbled, but then again I heard it. I probably have good listening skills.
I continued reading and he continued watching, but I realized that I couldn't finish a chapter today. I was a fast reader and I could have finished 2 chapters in this time. I lowered my book and sighed, I knew it wasn't because of the television, it was because of the single thought I have been thinking since this morning.
“Miles?” I asked him. “Yeah?” he asked, but he didn't leave his gaze at the show. “Do you and Sam have a past?” I asked him and he looked at me confusely. I don't blame him, I didn't specified it. “Let me rephrase that, do you know Sam before? Before you met her the day before yesterday?” I explained, and he shooked his head.
“No, I don't,” he said while he pursed his lips “but I sometimes see her in that figurine shop downtown.”
I nodded definitely knowing what shop he was talking about. Every other day, Sam would always go there to buy a figurine, specifically an angel figurine.
“Jules, since we're opening up to each other, it would be a good time i'll tell you everything about me and why I don't have any place to go.” he said, and I looked at him surprised. “I should have told the two of you before but...” he trailed off.
“No it's alright.” I reassured him. “Okay, here it goes...” he took a deep breath and started.
CLIFFHANGER!!!
I shouldn't be happy when I left a cliffhanger.
*cleared throat*
Sorry guys. I'm just making you all happy because this is clearly a serious fanfic, and I'm not used to being serious (I think).
