“I believe that we all fall down, sometimes.”

Samantha's POV

“Julie, I'm home!” I exclaim while putting my hoodie in the hat rack. I look at the outside the window and I see that it is raining hard with thunder. I turn around to see Miles, with his eyeballs roaming around the room and his mouth wide open.

I chuckle because of his funny reaction and I say “Miles, you can go home after the rain stops. But for now, you can stay here.” He scratch the back of his head “Actually..I dont have any place to go...” he says. “Oh”, he look down his feet while fiddling with his fingers. He looks embarrass.

“Well, you can stay here for awhile. There's an extra bedroom upstairs.” I say while pointing at the stairs. He nods and I look at him, he is soaking wet because of the rain. “Wait here for a minute.” I say while running up the stairs.

Miles' POV

I really dont have anything to do here so I follow her command. I look at my...clothes, it's wet. I never get soak in rain before.

“What do you want, Sam?” a voice says upstairs. Footsteps is stomping the wooden floorboards and a girl appears but she is different, she isn't Sam.

She has black hair mix with brown ones and her eyes are hazel. Her eyes roam around the room and when it lands to me, her eyes widens “Who are you?”, she asks.

“I'm-” I'm almost gonna say something but she cut me off. “Don't go near me.” she says while she backs off, I didn't even move a muscle. She continues walking backwards through the kitchen and she take the first thing she sees...A frying pan. I scrunch my eyebrows when I look at the cooking supply, it doesn't look dangerous.

But she still use it to defend herself. I resist to laugh, and I go inside the kitchen and say ”I can explain...” but then again she cut me off. “You don't have any reason to explain yourself.” she says stiffly.

“What's going on here?” another voice says upstairs and this time it was Sam, who is holding some clothes. “This guy almost jammed our house.” the other girl says, pointing at me with the use of her frying pan. Sam sigh and say “Jules, put the frying pan down.” So here name is Jules, short for Julie. “But…” Jules says but Sam cut her off, “I said, put the frying pan down.” she says tensely. Jules sighs and she follow her command. “Good.” Sam says sarcastically.

“Miles, this is Julie.” Sam says while pointing at me through Julie. Julie walk in front of me and she shake my hand “Julie Colemann, Jules for short.” she says with a smile. “Miles...” I say but pause, remembering I dont have a surname, “Just Miles” I say and Jules chuckle.

“Sorry about...that, just Miles.” she says while pointing at the frying pan. “It's fine, besides you can recognize a thief if he/she doesn't introduce herself/himself too early, and I can also see that by the way you hold the frying pan.” I say rapidly, and I never thought I could do that. Julie look at me weirdly but laughs. I never saw a mortal so joyful like she is.

“Here's your clothes, Miles. Wear it before the floor will be full of water.” Sam budge in and Jules hit her shoulder at Sam's shoulder. “What?” Sam asks. Jules mutter her answer to Sam. I can't hear it but I use my power to know what had she said, she said “Don't be rude.”. And Sam, the nice and polite girl, just rolls her eyes.

“Think fast!” Sam exclaims and she throw the clothes to me. I almost didn't caught it if I didn't spread my arms as far as I can. Julie walk upstairs, she can't take Sam's rudeness, that's what I read in her mind. Sam follows her but she halts in front of me, “How did you even knew my name before I introduce myself?” she asks randomly and my eyes are wide. I can't tell her the truth, she'll faint or she'll send me away from her house, or both.

I randomly scratch the back of my neck eventhough it wasn't itchy, I don't even know what that meant. “Um...your name fits with your appearance?”, I say more like a question. I can imagine Jules chuckling back into my jokes but can never imagine Sam frowning, “I'm serious, Miles.” she frowns while crossing her arms.

“Um..I sometimes saw you in that shop right next-” she cuts me off and she says “Yeah, that's the answer I want to hear.” in the best sarcastic voice ever. She hits my shoulders while she walks up the stairs. What's going on with Sam? A minute ago her face were full of joyful smiles, but now it's full of sarcastic and annoyed faces.

Julie's POV

I can't take Sam's rudeness, I exclaim in my head. Why does she have to treat Miles like that? He didn't do anything wrong to her, I think. I just met Miles for only 5 minutes but I already feel like I trust him.

A minute later, Sam is already in my side, “Is it fine for you if he sleep here in our house?” she trails off while she continues to walk to her bedroom, not even knowing my answer. My answer is yes and I won't change that. The way Sam treats him makes me think that I need to do something, and that is by treating him differently.

I go back downstairs, and I see him just standing there like a lost dog. I smile politely, “You should probably need to change that clothes.” I say, and he looks up noticing me for the first time. “Follow me, I'll show you to your room.” I say and he follows.

When we are finally in his room, the guest room, I tell him all the things inside it and I go to the door. “Goodnight, Miles” I say, “Goodnight, Jules” he replies. “..And thanks.” he adds and I give him a big smile. “Its nothing, and about Sam...don't get her into your nerves.” I say and he chuckles back. “But really, she's really sweet and kind. I was even shock when she treated you like that. I don't know what got into her mind.” I mumble and Miles' laugh fade.

“She was also sweet to me earlier. It rained and she got me here. She even told me that I could stay here for a while. But when she came back, she was different.”

I look at him and smile weakly. “I'm the closest to being her best friend and...” I trail off, coughing to cover it, “I think she's having a hard time, since I'm her only friend.” I lie.

Miles looks down and nods, and I close the door. I trust him but I can't just tell him about Harper.
