Chapter 11

“No one can escape death.”

***

Miles' POV

“Sorry sir, but you don't have any money to pay for the food.” the waiter said in front of me. I slowly left the line in embarrassment. The people behind me and the waiter looked at me weirdly.

My stomach grumbled, but this time I ignored it.

[You could always steal it.]

I ignored the voices too while I opened the restaurant door. The wind chimes sounded together with the british wind. I looked up to see that the clouds were hiding the sun.

British rain was coming, as always.

“It's gonna rain.” As I said those words the rain started dropping. A gush of wind that went through me made me stop looking at the gloomy sky.

A girl in ponytail with a ribbon hair tie ran in front of me. She stopped next to a street post, and she started spinning around it.

She laughed while looking at the sky. She had loved the british rain.

I wasn't really focused about the kid two feet away from my side at first because I had things to do. I wore the hood over my head with the jacket that I had borrowed from Jules. And I crossed the street with the help of the street post with the traffic signs.

I walked further through the sidewalk until I heard a woman “Cindy! Where are you?” she had called. When I heard that name, my power to read minds activated. I had seen a girl with short black hair with bright blue eyes; almost grey in my mind. But I had remembered that blue ribbon tied in her hair the most.

I had stopped walking. I resisted to turn around but the woman continued to call her name and I needed to help her. My eyes gazed to the girl accross the street. She already had noticed that her mom wasn't around and she also called her name.

She looked at her left and right side but not accross where her mom was. A guardian angel had protected her by now.

“I can't see any sign of an angel.” I said to myself.

Since the ‘accident’ I never saw an immortal even once and I was worried that my powers faded away. I can be seen by mortals, I couldn't walk through walls anymore, and I was sure that my power to teleport faded too. The only thing I tested and successfully worked that time was my power to read minds.

Maybe if I just focus I could see them. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and I thought about my vision to see my fellow immortals, as I hoped I was still one of them.

I opened my eyes and I noticed two demons right beside me. [Oh, hello Miles, we are the voices inside your head and your best of friends.] one of them said with an evil smile.

I ignored them while I looked accross the street again. I was expecting to see a demon next to Cindy but there was no sign of one. My mouth opened in shock.

[She's destined to die.] the demon at my left side said as they both cackled an evil laugh. Their laugh hurted me, not physically but mentally.

I hate this kind of events, all we could just do was watch and wait for the person to die. That's what I exactly did, watched and waited.

It happened so quickly, one second Cindy saw her mother accross the street, and the next she ran accross the street without looking at the street sign. I closed my eyes; I didn't want to see what happens next.

A sound of a crash went through my ears, and I heard mortals screaming. The demons beside me didn't stop laughing. Eventhough I covered my ears, I still had heard every sounds of agony and happiness mixed together.

When I opened my eyes after the acident, the first thing I saw was a girl. She was a foot away from a truck with blood on its bumper. She was lying on the ground, her hair, which was once a ponytail, covered her face but there were blood around her.

It was exactly like....

Her mother came a second later, her eyes with beads of tears while holding her daughter. I looked up and saw a lot of guardian angels sorrounded the girl...the girl's soul. The soul was holding her mom's sleeves while she called her but her mom couldn't see her.

Cindy's soul started crying while the angels looked at her with sympathy. They wanted to help her but they can't, if angels could cry they would had.

An immortal with color blue clothes came into view. Her cerulean eyes reminded me of Emily. She was a carrier.

When the angels saw her, they had backed away from Cindy. The carrier sat next to Cindy and she comforted her. The carrier tried her best to explain to her that she was dead, but she was just a young girl.

The carrier bid her time and I read her mind that she'll explain all of it to her later in a right time. The carrier stood up, and Cindy still in tears followed her movement. When the carrier's gaze landed on me for a second, I remembered cerulean eyes filled with furiosity in my vision.

My mind further went through the time when I saw those furious eyes.

The car accident.

The mortal.

Blood.

The carrier.

Those furious eyes.

Those memories hit me in the chest. I kneeled in the sidewalk and broke down.

I sat at the side of the sidewalk. Emergency lights glinting 10 feet away while I thought about what had happened.

“Hello” someone said behind me and I turned around to see an 11 years old girl. She had her dirty blond hair into a braid while it was covered by a beanie. “Hi” I greeted back.

She sat down next to me without asking me, but I didn't mind. What I noticed was that she sat so slowly and she didn't looked down at the ground when she did. “Are you the brother of the girl in the accident?” she asked me nonchalantly and I was taken aback.

She didn't looked at me when she asked it. I wasn't exactly sure where she was looking because she was wearing sunglasses.

“Yes” I replied. I didn't want this conversation to die. She nodded still not looking at me. “No one can escape death.” she quoted, she sounded so formal for an 11 year old.

I nodded, but I said that I agree to her because she couldn't see it. She was blind.

“Zoe!” someone exclaimed. The 11 year old felt her bag and she got a sandwich. The man who exclaimed approached us “Where were you? I was so worried.” he told her.

She stood up and the man helped her. “I was just strolling for a while, uncle. I couldn't handle the sounds of agony in the street where the accident happened.” she answered. “You could have told me you wanted to leave.” the man said.

The man looked at me, noticing me for the first. “I'm sorry about my niece.” he apologized. “No its alright, she was good company actually.” I said with a smile. The man nodded and they started to walk away. “Goodbye!” Zoe called and I said goodbye back.

I then noticed that Zoe left the sandwich beside me.
