Amy...I'm going to school today, hopefully it will be okay.
I put down my pen and pull on my hoodie, I pull my bag onto my shoulder. I'll finish after school. I lock up the house and start walking to school, my eyes start to burn with the threatening tears but I force myself not to cry. The walk to school usually isn't long but today I'm really noticing what everything looks like. The wind is blowing my hair back from my face, it has a chill to it so my nose reddens and stings. The purple ombre flowers wave to me In a sad manner as if they reflect my own feelings, a stray puppy passes my feet. It stops at my feet and looks at me for a second then continues walking. I watch it go down the path then continue my lonely sad walk.
"Jac-Jackson?" A soft but familiar female voice comes from over my shoulder. I turn around and find Lauren Veski standing behind me.
"Mmh?" I continue walking.
"Well...umm..." She walks behind me. "Your friends said that you knew that Amy girl and I wanted to say that...I-I know what I did was wrong in year seven, I just wanted to fit in so badly that I chose popularity over my brother- oof" I stopped and she ran into my back.
"Do you know how many friends I've had?"
"No, but I-" Her voice is muffled from my back.
I cut her off again "Three, Luke, Peter and Amy" I start to walk when Lauren grabs my wrist.
"Wait!!" She says with a hurt expression. She looks like a Fox about to be shot...but she has no fear just a sad look in her eyes. "I'm trying to apologize to you and you can't even give me the time of day! Quit being a selfish bastard and listen to me!" I turn around and look at her.
"Okay...talk" I don't turn around but I don't walk away either. This girl has a lot to say to me and deep down I actually want to hear it.
"Well, like I said before I am truly sorry...I wanted to fit in more than I valued my friendship with you" Lauren explains.
"You can't even begin to understand what it ws like for me. I was am outcast...you and Chris, who also stabbed my girlfriend and put her in a coma, thank you...the two of you, you spread rumours, Chris gave me countless black eyes, I-I can't even begin to explain what Chris Ban and Lauren Veski started. Hearing how popular you had become...hearing how my best friend had left me to become the pretty, popular girly-girl...it crushed me." I walk away and leave Lauren standing there. I can hear her start to sob but I don't turn back.
I arrive at school and hide my face in my hoodie. I walk past a table covered in flowers, I walk over and notice a picture of Amy in the middle.
We give hope to our classmate, we give hope that she will overcome this bump in her path.
People from my class start to stand around me, Sam pats me on the shoulder and gives me an apologetic smile. I look back at him with a sad look and walk to class.
The sound of high schoolers is all around me...but I don't hear a thing. Doors slam shut, students yell to each other, it feels like I'm walking in slow motion in mute. I look around and watch a teacher yell at a group of students in a corner. As I push past them one of the girls watches me and I enter the room they're standing at.
"Jackson...Jackson!" Peter is standing in the classroom with Luke at his side. I ignore him and sit down. I put in my earphones and shut my eyes. All of a sudden they are yanked out of my ears and Luke wraps his arms around me. He pats my back as a tear drops onto his shoulder. Peter kneels at my desk beside me.
"Jackson...it's going to be okay...Amy wouldn't want you to cry...she would want you to smile about what you had before" Luke says as he lets me go.
"Heh...that's so cheesy" I give him a weak smile.
"Hey! There's that smile!!" Peter says.
"Yeah, umm...I know it will get better...but I just...hurt" I say.
"Yeah...I know" Luke says.
"I'm actually doing something that seems a little crazy" I say.
"What is it?" They look at me with confusion in their eyes.
"I'm writing letters" I say.
"Thats not that crazy...I mean not everyone gets email!" Peter says.
"No! I mean I'm writing to Amy...about my day and what's happening...am I insane?" I ask them.
"No, absolutely not...that's a very nice idea" Peter says happily.
"Yeah, yeah I agree!" Luke says.
I give them a smile as the teacher walks in and we have to stop talking.
I spend the rest of the lesson in silence. The teacher would call on me but I'd lie and say I didn't know.
"Mr Soul!" My teacher yells.
I look up at him, my hair flops in front of my eyes but I don't move it. "Mhhmm?"
"I would appreciate it if you would stop daydreaming!" He says.
"I have nothing to daydream about" I say with a monotone voice.
"Well, Mr Soul. You seem very interested in Miss Vale's seat...wishing your girlfriend would come back to school?" His sarcastic comment makes my blood boil.
"If you hadn't heard 'Miss Vale' won't be at school until later notice" I say with emphasis on her name.
"And why is that?!" His voice raises but is filled with sarcasm.
"Because Sir" I take a second before continuing to speak. "She , oh sorry! 'Miss vale' was stabbed...in this very school! And is in a fricken coma"
"Well then...just...umm....pay attention more" He walks over to me. "I'm sorry" He whispers. He walks away and continues teaching.
The bell finally rings and I'm first out of the room. The rest of the day goes by like a blur.
After the last bell rings I walk home. I notice the same puppy from this morning sitting under a tree. I walk over to it and see that there's no collar. I pick it up and walk to the local vet's. The walk is only an extra five to ten minutes. As I open the door a bell rings and the lady at the desk looks up.
"Hi, would I be able to check for a microchip?" I ask.
The puppy didn't belong to anyone so I bought a collar and lead and walked it home. After opening the door I unhook the lead and the puppy runs inside. I lock the door and walk into the kitchen to get some food. I put some leftover meat in a bowl and sit it on the floor along with some water. I then grab myself a snack and walk to my room. I sit down and continue to write my letter.
Amy...
