"Why are you late?!" He snaps.
"I-I was...uh...visiting some-Someone" I stutter.
When I start to back up uncle stands and walks towards me.
"Sit down kid" I back up some more looking at what's in his hand.
"Uncle...Put the bat down" I say backing up.
"Nah...precaution" He hisses. "Sit!" I sit down and he lowers the bat while sitting across from me.
"What do you want to say?" I fiddle with my thumb as I ask him.
"Oh! Yes, yes. How have you been? Anything exciting happen?" He gasps loudly. "Got a girlfriend...or boyfriend? Or are you still single? C'mon tell me!" He seems excited to know.
"Umm...I'm in a relationship" I look down.
"Girl or boy?"
"Girl" I look at him. His eyes sort of sparkling...maybe he does actually just want to know.
"Name" He drags out the 'a'.
"Sadie" [Pronounced Say-Dee] I can't give him a real name or he might find her.
"I want to meet her!" He says jumping in his seat.
"You can't" I say simply.
"And why not?" He asks.
"Am-Sadie is not able to..umm...see people right now" I say.
"Why not!?" He snaps.
"She's in a coma!" I whimper.
"I. Don't. Care!!!" He yells at the top of his lungs.
The rest of that night is a nightmare. He uses the bat, he hits my legs, arms, back and face.
"Think about what you say next time kid" And with that he's gone.
"Bloody hell!" I wince in pain, laying on my floor. I reach up and grab my phone from my jacket pocket.
Dad: Hello?
Me: Dad? I'm hurt.
Dad: What!? How?
Me: Uncle came and when he couldn't go to see Amy he hit me with a bat.
Dad: Where are you now?
Me: I'm on the floor near the couch.
Dad: Okay, I'm sending an ambulance!
Me: Okay.
I lay on the floor until I hear an ambulance coming around the corner. They race in my house and put me up on a stretcher, I am carried to the truck and taken to the hospital. They don't know what happened...I think, dad might have told them but I seriously hope he didn't, they might call the police. My eys drift shut as they rush me to the emergency room.
I wake up looking at a white roof, it has a vent and a bright white light. I'm in a small room hooked up to a small machine. A nurse comes in and checks my board.
"Oh! Good you're awake! How are you feeling?" She says with a perky expression.
"Umm, how long was I out?" I ask tiredely.
"About a day" she says.
"Could I please have a pen and paper?" I sit up and look at her.
"Yes, May I ask why?" She hands me a pen and a piece of paper from her notebook.
"I need to write a letter to my girlfriend"
"Do we have a name?" She asks.
"Amy, Amy Vale" I look down sadly.
"Oh, is she in a coma?" I nod. "I'm so sorry" She walks out and I start to write.
Amy, guess what!? I'm in hospital! I'll go back a day. I told you that uncle came back and said he'd be back at 8:00pm. He came to the house before me as I was with you. He had a bat and he wanted to see you so when I said you were in a coma he beat me with a bat. I called my dad and he called an ambulance to get me. I need to go, my nurse is back.
I love you.
Jackson.
