Chapter 6: Daniel
"It's sad, Mom! He said his parents didn't teach him anything, or cook for him, or...I couldn't imagine living that way."
Mom hums, tilting her head a bit as she scrolls on her phone. "He's probably used to it, Daniel."
"That doesn't make it better. If he's used to it, what if he's never been shown real love, Mom? What if this is it to him? Materialistic, surface-level affection? That's not good."
"Daniel...You've been talking about Jace for over an hour now, honey. You haven't even told me about your classes yet."
"I know, I just...He fascinates me, Mom. I want to know more about him."
"I want to know more about your classes," she says, smiling at me. "You had Gregory Rook for Bondage 101, I presume?"
I nod, taking a sip of my soda. It's Coke and Dr. Pepper together, which Mom says is gross, but I enjoy it. "Yes. His sub came by, to bring him his lunch. His sub was neat looking."
"I know. I've met Moth. I see them frequently, actually. Lovely individual, and a very interesting clothing style. My Love?"
Dad sticks his head out of the kitchen, a towel over one shoulder. "Yes, darling?"
"Are you sure you don't want help with dinner?"
"Positive. I put away all of our laundry like you requested, by the way."
Mom grins and blows him a kiss. "Good man." Dad smiles fondly and ducks back into our kitchen. "And your communications class?"
"It was great! We took a kind of like...placement test, and I was one of the highest scorers!" I announce proudly. I've always prided myself on how seriously I take communication and how much I know about it.
"That's good. Communication is the most important."
I grin widely, then look towards the kitchen. "It smells so good...What's Dad making, again?"
"Chicken pot pie."
"My favorite!"
"Anything with meat is your favorite, honey."
I just smile at her. "Well, yeah. It's meat! It's the best food group!" I pause for a second, then switch topics. "Jace draws, Mom. He's really good at it."
"I assume he had teachers and classes for that."
"Probably. He was drawing a sub in a pose from Art of Submission. It looked so good, Mom. I can't wait to see it when it's finished, if he'll show me."
Mom nods politely. "And Avery? Is he alright? I heard from his mother that he had a panic attack today?"
"Yeah, he texted me all upset because he had spilled water on a dom in class and ran away. He was crying when I got him out of the restroom and took him home. He said he hadn't taken his medication in awhile. The dom wasn't angry or anything, Avery just panicked, like Avery does. I tried to make him smile, though. I tried taking his mind off of it, but I couldn't. His mom said he was okay a little bit ago, though. That he was sleeping."
"I'm just not sure he's...ready for all this. Doesn't he graduate soon?" Mom says hesitantly.
"Actually, he can't. He's in remedial courses for posing and communication."
"He is? But he's basically got Art of Submission committed to memory. And I know he knows even the more difficult poses, because he asked your dad to show him."
