CW: Discussion of assault, attempted gaslighting (I think that's what part of it would be, but I'm not quite sure if what happens counts as gaslighting? But I'm saying it, just in case.) If these topics are triggering to you, feel free to skip this chapter and shoot me a DM and I can give you the important information from this chapter. Anyways

Chapter 11: Jace

Cameron looks over at me as he puts his car in park. "Are you sure you're ready to go in?" It's nearly dark out, as I had put coming home off as long as I could.

"I can't put it off forever. Just...don't leave me alone with him."

"I won't." Cameron kills his car and pockets his keys before we both get out of the car and slowly walk into the house together.

Dad is waiting in the living room, with the scariest look on his face. "Jace. What the fuck?"

"He kissed me, Dad. When I'd made it clear I didn't want him to do that and I panicked and-"

"It was just a kiss, Jace. You had a hissy fit over a kiss!"

I flinch towards Cameron a bit when Dad raises his voice. Cameron's hand lands lightly on my shoulder. "Dad...It felt like he was trying to put his hands-"

"Do you have any idea how pissed Marcus is? You assaulted Kyren!"

Cameron glowers at Dad, his hand on my shoulder tightening. "Bullshit. I saw the video. Kyren didn't even fall. Jace nudged him at best."

"This has nothing to do with you, Cameron. Stay out of it!"

"Make me," Cameron says coolly. Despite the calm tone of voice he puts on, I can see just how tense his jaw is. He's so mad.

Dad glares at him for several moments, and then that icy glare shifts to me. "You couldn't even go on a single damn date without fucking up! This shit isn't difficult! Why can't you just be like Jacque?!"

"Because he's not Jacque!" Cameron shouts back, voice echoing. "He's Jace. You've got three fucking kids, start acting like it."

"Don't raise your GODDMAN VOICE at me!"

I bite my lip hard enough to draw blood, trying to fight back a whimper. I don't want them to fight. It's scary.

"Then don't shout at Jace, Alexander."

I swear I can see Dad's face turn red. "Don't you ever do that again. I'm your father and you will address me as such!"

But Cameron doesn't cower away like I do. "I'll 'address you as such'," Cameron mimics, "when you show me that you deserve that title. Come on, Jace. We're going upstairs."

"Like hell you are! I'm not done-"

Cameron turns me to face the stairs, gently guiding me towards them. "You're done."

I don't find my voice until we're on the landing, and even when I do, it's cracking and wavery. "Cameron...I could've...Dad's going to just be...angrier. We shouldn't have walked away."

"I'm not going to let him scream at you for pushing away someone who was literally sexually assaulting you."

"It wasn't...It was a kiss. He didn't-"

"It still counts as assault, Jace. You're in the right." Cameron leads me into his room, letting me hop up onto his bed. "Dad can go scream at someone else. Not you."

"But now he's mad at you."

"So? Let him be mad. I don't really give a shit. Did you enjoy your time at Daniel's?"
