"Can anyone tell me what the amygdala is?"

You're bouncing your pencil on your thumb as you sit in your psychology lecture, struggling to pay attention.

You're in college now despite all of the trauma you went through. You knew you had to persevere and get through life and do all of the things your friends couldn't do. So here you are, in a lecture hall full of about a hundred people, listening to your classmate next to you pop their gum.

"The amygdala is an almond-shaped spot in both hemispheres of the brain that controls your emotions, such as fear and aggression. It also controls decision making, reward processing, and tying emotions to memories." your professor says as she writes the word on the chalkboard.

The word sounds interesting and relates to you in a way no one could ever know. It's odd to think that a tiny spot in your brain that resembles a tree nut controls the fear you once felt so strongly and the feelings you have when thinking back on the murders. You wonder if there's a way to remove it but doubt it very seriously. But, you wouldn't be you without your past. And even though you want to change it, you can't. So life goes on.
