Present Day

I'm off to a fantastic start of my day. I woke up late for work, and I am never late. Rushing into the meeting room filled with my colleague's, I try to find a seat quietly.

"Glad to see you could join us, Miss Lange." I give Jason a wobbly smile. A smile that I hope gives off the impression that I am deeply sorry for interrupting his presentation. I never thought I would be this lucky with landing a job like this, the last thing I want is to irritate Jason. Not only is this job great, it pays off my bills, and then some. I have the best coworkers I could ever even ask for. Sure, Jason may have sounded sarcastic, but that's just who he is. I know that once I give him an explanation for my rude interruption, he won't have a problem with it. Right?

Speaking of having good coworkers, I met my best friend here. Amber kicks my leg while keeping her attention on the presentation. The corner of her mouth curves into a frown, but its anything but that. She is canceling her laugh. Believe it or not, she is not the two-faced kind of person. I know for a fact that she won't end up sleeping with my boyfriend, if I had one, because we have polar opposite types.

Amber picks up her pen and begins writing notes. I should do that. Not only did I wake up late and underdressed for work, I forgot my bag. I pinch Amber's elbow and she lets out a scuff.

She hands me a notebook and a pen. Thank you, Amber. I mouth as her eyes roll.

Jason changes the slides on the presentation. "We have some news. The owner of the company has passed recently. This means there will be a change in the way things work around here. His grandsons will be taking over." He says as he passes everyone a sheet. Grandsons? I didn't even know he had any. Cyrus was the last person I assumed to have a family, let alone grandsons. I'm not saying he was a rude guy, but he only ever had money on his mind. He was never interested in a damn thing unless he could profit off it. I guess in a way he is finding some kind of profit off this, his legacy will continue. I shake my head hoping I will be able to focus on what Jason is saying.

"Find your name, the assignment that is listed below is what I expect you to have completed by the end of the week," he sighs. "I know I am asking a lot from you guys, but with Cyrus passing, his grandsons are shutting down a couple of the company's buildings, and I do not intend ours to be one."

Why the hell are they shutting down some of the company's buildings? I guess I was wrong about Cyrus' legacy. That really sucks. He is probably turning over in his grave yelling. I raise my hand as Jason ignore it. He is asking a lot from us. I can't manage to do what he is asking of me in a week. I glance back down at the paper to reread what my assignment is just to make sure I understood it correctly.

Amina Lange: Deal with the clients on the spreadsheet I emailed to you this morning.

Yep, I read it correctly. Jason wants me to deal with our most difficult clients ever. I can already feel the migraine I will have by the end of all this.

"That's all for today, thank you for your cooperation this morning." Jason says as he walks out of the meeting.

Myself along with everyone else slowly gathers our strength to walk out with some kind of dignity.
