"Amber, I'm not kidding." I nearly yell at her. She keeps laughing at me and it only frustrates me even more.

"I'm sorry! I just think you are overreacting. Maybe just a little?"

No. I really don't. It's his first day and the atmosphere in the room has fallen below zero. I don't know who raised him, or what goes on in his head, but talking to Jason like that is not nice. Let alone professional. "I don't know who served a side of asshole with his-" Amber kicks my leg so hard I'm certain it will leave a bruise. Her eyes widen to me as she looks at the man approaching us.

I don't want to be on bad terms with anyone in the office, so I really hope he didn't hear a word I just said.

"Hi, Jace." Amber says with far too much excitement.

He reaches his hand out and shakes hers. "I'm Jace, and you are?"

"Amber," she says with a swoon smile. "First day?"

"Something like that," his eyes dart to mine then back to Amber. "I just wanted to formally introduce myself to everyone." He turns towards me. I quickly cross my arms so he doesn't try to offer me his hand. He lost all my respect when he stole my note. Everyone in the offices loves them, which just goes to show that he will not fit in here.

My eyes lock with his. "This is Amina. But call her Mia." Amber tells the asshole.

"No," I interrupt. "Mia is reserved for friends."

"Amina it is then." He lets out a laugh and walks off.

I bring my attention back onto Amber. "Is it just me, or did Lucifers brother just laugh?" "Mia, you don't know him. Stop assuming the worst. He seems like a good guy, okay?"

I flatten my hands on the table. "He took my note, Amber."

She throws her head back laughing. "Is that what this is about?" She asks as she writes me another one and sticks it on my shirt. "Mhm. Not the same." I say while laughing.

"Whatever," she brings her hair into a bun. "Did you want to come out with me and a couple of friends tonight, or are you going to stay in your work cave?"

I cringe at the fact that people notice how late I have been staying at work. "I'm not sure yet. I'll have to text you."

"I'll just call you at nine and then you can let me know?"

"Sounds like a plan," I say while pulling my laptop closer to me. "Now, out of my office."

"You don't have an office, Mia. My desk is not even five feet from yours." She walks over to her desk while giving me a wink. "Remember, it's a Friday! You got to live a little."

I'd like to live a little, but I can't just pawn my work off to someone else. I mean, I could give it to Jace, but I won't. I know exactly what his thinking is. He wants to take my assignment so that people in the office will view him as the person who gets shit done. I can't let that happen though, this is mine. He can keep his grubby hands off.

...

It's eight thirty and once again I am left in the office alone. Dialing Mr. Coles number, I can feel my heat racing. "Hi Mr. Cole, my name is Amina Lange, could I have a moment of your time?"

"Yes."

"Great! I was just hoping to clear up some complications with the plans you have for expanding. The layout you would like is over an acre too large for the lot you have. Would you like us to construct a new blueprint, or would you like to keep this one and find another lot for sale?"
