I need to find Jace to thank him for what he did for me. I don't know why he did what he did, but I feel indebted to him now. And I do not like feeling like I owe people anything. But with this raise, I can pay my brothers rent. He has been surviving off Raman noodles for the past years because his financial situation does not get him very far.

I could jump up and down with excitement.

"Amber, have you seen Jace anywhere?" I ask her.

"He is by the reception desk," she frowns. "Have you seen Joseph?"

"No." I say with a laugh I can hardly contain. Joseph is kind of a creep. Whenever he talks to any girl in the office, his eyes are everywhere they shouldn't be. I kind of feel bad that Amber got placed to be with him, she is going to end up doing all of the work anyway, and he will receive half of the credit.

"I'd love to chat, but I got to go get this started."

Her eyes narrow. "Yeah, you do that."

I choose to ignore her comment because I know she is envious. Not that there is anything to be envious of. But I do know that she has a little work crush though.

I walk over to the reception desk where Amber said I would find Jace. Sure enough, I did. He is walking towards me with a powerful stride. His legs are a little too long for his suit, but he pulls it off somehow.

He stops right in front of me and looks me up and down.

Then he looks up and down again.

I don't know if there was something in my drink this morning, but I think Jace was just checking me out. I stare at him hoping he isn't another Joseph. If he were, I will laugh at myself more than I have been laughing at Amber.

"I just wanted to thank you," I straighten my back. "And maybe apologize for being an asshole towards you."

The way he is staring at me is making me nervous.

"You cut your hair?" He asks.

I did. I open my mouth to reply but he beats me to it.

"Don't worry about it," the corner of his mouth lifts. "I think we got off on the wrong foot."

A fool would be able to notice that, so I am glad he did. I got so used to him being gone, I want the office to stay the same. And that means clearing the air with Jace.

"Can I take you to lunch or something as a thank you?" I ask.

His head shakes. "I don't do lunch, sorry."

My brows furrow, did he or did he not just say we got off on the wrong foot? Is he trying to get back on that foot?

"I'm trying really hard to put our differences-"

"I do dinner." He corrects.

My lips press together. "I don't," I let out a laugh. "So, what's it going to be then?"

"Linner." He suggests.

His comment makes me smile more than I'd like to admit.

"Flattered, but no." I shake my head. "I'll give you a gift card for your linner."

"How about you just give me your number?"
