Anais Jones
Halloween day
I looked in the mirror, struggling to put my earrings on. In a second I was about to give up. I was just gone go meet this man looking like a bum. When my earring finally clamped, I was more than happy to move on to the next step.I sprayed perfume in the air then stepped through the mist. Just so I could smell good. There was no telling how close we would get. Finally, I made sure my hair looked good. I had to be in tip top shape if I wanted my pictures taken.
Joshua said I could throw on whatever I wanted. So I listened and went with a not so safe choice. A dress. It was a little chilly outside but that was nothing a nice jacket couldn't fix.
Grabbing my phone, tote bag and my keys, I left my bedroom then eventually my apartment. Made sure everything was locked up before leaving too.
"Hey!" I heard from the right side of me.
Turning around, I saw that it'd been my neighbor Abella.
"Heyyy." I smiled, giving her a quick hug.
"How are you?" She asked.
"I'm good. Bout to head out. Get my pictures taken. You know...then I'm gonna take the twins trick or treating." I bubbled. "You?"
"Pretty much the same minus the trick or treating and picture taking." She chuckled. "I'm just going to get candy from the market. Around Halloween, we get tons of trick or treaters. A lot of kids live in this building so I love to dress up and give out candy. Then you know...I might go to a halloween party with my boyfriend."
"Shoot...I wish I could go to halloween parties and shit. Reminds me of my younger days." I pouted.
She shrugged her shoulders. "Well in due time."
"You're right. Seeya later though!" I waved. "Maybe I'll stop by with the twins!"
"Yes please do! I wanna meet the little munchkins." She smiled.
I nodded my head and waved her goodbye, sliding into the elevator. That girl could talk your ear off but she was so sweet. I actually needed friends like that. One's that weren't boring and knew how to engage in conversation.
Once I made it down to the lobby of my apartment building, I clutched my bag with anxiety. In any second, I would be seeing Josh waiting for me. This time we were meeting outside of work.
I just had to wait and see how things would play out.
Scrolling through my instagram feed, I pretended that I was looking at something even the slightest bit interesting. Just to make it look like I was focused on something else rather than meeting up with Josh.
Then, suddenly someone walked up to me. I could only assume it was him.
"Hello Anais." He spoke.
I looked up from my phone, so startled that I dropped it. Then as I tried to pick it up, I kicked it with my boot and it slid across the floor. Before I could chase after it, Joshua picked it up for me.
"Thank you." I laughed with embarrassment.
He laughed with me. "I've never met anyone more clumsier than you."
"Not funny. And trust me...I'm not so clumsy. It's just that...I don't know. My anxiety...blah blah blah- h- How are you this morning?" I blushed.
"Couldn't be any better." He shrugged, putting his hands behind his back. "You?"
"I'm fine. I'm good." I nodded, obviously still flushed.
"Good or fine? Which one?" He asked.
"I'm food." I answered, stupidly. I meant to say 'good' but it came at as 'food'. Already I wanted to jump from the top of the eiffel tower.
