Elaine's POV
I hurry myself to Mr. Whitlock's workspace, as one of the servants said that he had called me. I wonder what he had called me for. Did I do something wrong? Did I forget to do something? I finished all the chores for the day, does he have something else for me?
I knock on his door which immediately opened without command. I see that he was scurrying around the workspace, trying to find something. I don't know what, but it's not my business.
I see that he finally noticed my existence, so he invited me in to sit down in one of his many chairs while he was still searching around for something.
"Come! Come in! Sit! Sit!" He says pointing to the chair, not really paying attention to me. I go to sit down in the chair that he told me to sit in.
He took a few minutes to pick up all of his documents before sitting down right in front of me. I'm guessing this chat was serious, since we've never had a conversation like this before.
"So...Elaine, I've seen that you've been 'bonding' with Elliot over the past few years or so, mind explaining why?" He asks, facing me, staring at me intensely.
"O-Oh, well.. I just seem to get along with him that's all, nothing personal between you and us, if you were thinking that way..." I say, fumbling a bit.
"Oh no no! It's not like that at all! I'm very happy that you both are getting along quite well, but I just want to ask something.." He says is a reassuring voice.
"Oh, what do you want to ask me?" I ask, a bit weirded out by his tone of voice.
"I want to ask some questions. Are you the same age as him?" He says, still looking at me.
"Well- I mean.. clearly not sir, no." I say, not understanding the question.
"Right. Do you know anything about his personal life, at all?" He asks.
"Well, I know some of it, he likes to talk to me about it sometimes." I said, still putting on a smile.
"Mhm...have you been with him for a long time?" He asks, moving around some papers.
"Well, I'm not sure if I was the first one here, but I've been here longer than some other servants." I say, thinking about the question for a bit.
"Hm, I'll take that as a no." He says. I was a bit offended, since he knew that I've been here a while.
"So tell me, why do you treat him as if you were his mother, his guardian?" He says, looking straight at me again.
"Well, we just have a sort of bond, as you said. Plus, he said it himself that he sees me as some sort of parental figure, and I was a bit honored-" I said.
"I- I- I- don't CARE what he 'said', don't bring him into this! I'm just saying, that I think it would be better if you keep the relationship status with him quo." He says. I look at him, not understanding what he was saying.
"I'm...not understanding what you're saying sir. Could you elaborate?" I ask.
"I'm saying to stop trying to be friends with him! I hired you as a servant, not some kind of buddy that he's supposed to get along with!" He says, raising his voice.
What is he saying!? I could never end my relationship with Ellie, it's been going on for too long to just end it like that! But this is from Mr. Whitlock, my boss, the one I'm supposed to follow orders from.
