"You have thirty minutes. Let the games begin."
I lean up against the wall, not wanting to believe that only one of us will walk out alive.
"Gosh. This is the biggest tragedy since the Korean War. Right?" Ji-yeong says, still maintaining her cool disposition.
"What are we gonna do?" I say, fighting tears. I feel like a baby, but I can't help it.
"I don't know." Ji-yeong says.
"Can you pick the game? I can't even think straight right now." I say "I'm not the best at marbles either."
"I don't know what to do either. This is what those boomers used to play as kids." Ji-yeong says, fiddling with her bag. "They did say we can create our own rules. I'll give it some thought."
After a bit of silence, Ji-yeong speaks up.
"Lets... end the game with a single round. Let's just bet everything, and play one round. " She says, looking me in the eye
I stare at her hesitantly, I don't want to die that fast.
"Is that what you want to be doing until the clock runs out?" She says, nodding her head to a pair of men.
"Okay, we'll do that. How do we play?" I ask
"Why are you in a hurry? I want to leave too, but not right away." She says
"I just-- I don't know." I say, squatting down.
"We're just playing one round. We have some time left. Let's do it later, super last minute." Ji-yeong says, looking up at the timer.
"Do you want to talk while we wait?" I suggest. I really don't want to be thinking right now.
"Sure. Let's talk about things we would never tell other people. Only one of us is leaving anyways. No matter what we say, there's no chance of an awkward encounter. Don't you think?" She says
"Thats great actually." I say, smiling the slightest bit, and moving to sit by her on the stairs.
"So, I'll ask you a question to get started. Hmm....ah, this is a basic one. Whats your biggest secret?" She says, smirking
"Probably my debt. The only person that knows is a good friend I have outside. Not even my own father knows." I say, looking her in the eyes. "Whats yours?"
"Well, probably that I'm gay." she says
"You are?" I say, my eyes opening wide.
"Yeah. You're the only one that knows that one." She says, laughing a bit.
"I am too, Isn't that a coincidence?" I say, giggling
"Yeah, we should hang out somewhere when we leave this place." She says
I realize that both of us had forgotten about the situation that we're in, and that only one of us would be leaving.
"I forgot for a second." She says, her mood shifting.
"Well, I have a question for you now. Have you ever seen any other dead bodies, other than the ones here?" I ask, curious
Right when Ji-yeong is about to open her mouth, we hear a gunshot.
"Player 130, eliminated." the PA woman says
"Well, the first one I saw was my mom's" Ji-yeong says "One day I came home from school, and I found her dead on the floor. Next to her....was my so called dad. With a knife in his hand. The next person I saw dead....was my dad. And the one standing next to him with the knife was me."
