Everyone was awake, we were sitting at the table in the oak tree, awaiting my mother's arrival. No one knew about her visit earlier. I awaited her arrival in complete angst, scared of what was going to happen.
Then, we all heard the tree's entrance move. She was here, ready to fight. Once Desdemona had been in my line of vision, I could clearly see what she was wearing. It was a dress of an elongated length and emerald green. It had two straps that were rather thin and made her shoulders look pointed. A robe hung loosely around her bodice, and it was purely black with a gold lining. She had really dressed for the occasion.
"Oh, Ophelia! How long has it been? Too long! The years have not been kind to you," Desdemona looked down at her like she was made of filth.
Alagwar turned in his seat, boiling with complete rage. "Keep this professional and be grateful we aren't killing you right here, right now."
"I can see you're all upset, oh not me. I woke up feeling amazing, though I sparsely got any sleep!" She plastered on the scariest grin.
Desdemona sat herself down and pursed her lips together. "What is there to discuss? There is going to be a fight and I am going to win-"
"We need to negotiate. Why do you want to risk the lives of thousands for something that does not need to happen?" Gwendolin was careful with her words.
"It is inevitable and everyone must die," she brushed her off easily.
"We don't want this! We don't need to go on with such a horrendous thing," Gwendolin did not stop there.
"No, you all want to defeat the first Lemonark, to lock me away and extract my blood for your experiments!" My mother raised her voice and hissed out her words.
"Our offer is for you to stay in Blossom County under frequent supervision, but you will get to live in an upper-class house. You will be put to good usage with your abilities and a tidy sum will in return, be given out," Ianthropa broke in.
Desdemona guffawed, "that would be a crumby life when I could easily have much more. I don't care who I kill to get it."
"You're going to ruin all of this unity just for the first chance of winning?" Madame Linette cried out.
"I know I'll win, and when I do, you all are going to be the first in the line for execution. There is one exception, of course," Desdemona glanced at me. A reproachful feeling had washed over me.
"You can't kill us, we can outsmart you. Just take the offer, please. There is a chance in which you don't have to be the villain," Dilip pleaded.
"You can't outsmart me, you can't even cause me a scrape," my mother cackled.
"You've always been so vile, Desdemona! Can't you see we want to help you? You're going to tear through Blossom County and only let fear conquer," Ophelia shot daggers at her.
"Just take our offer and leave your havoc behind you! All of those years will be wiped clean and you will get a life you used to only dream of. All of that pain you put up with and want to cause others, it's all gone. We will help you leave behind your path and change yourself for the better. You will finally be... normal." Arthur held a look of pure distress in his eyes.
Desdemona was going to speak but took a pause.
Xavier, who had been quiet the whole time, took the chance to speak. His voice was so bitter and cold. "You are lucky such a privilege is being given to you."
Desdemona snapped out of her thoughtful trance and curved her lips into a malicious smile. "Maybe I should keep you alive Xavier, you know, to give a nod to your son."
"He was a fool! You never loved him, and he could not see that" Xavier kept a steady tone.
"Oh, he gave me my daughter, who I would like to speak to myself."
"Anything you could say to her can be said to all of us-" Xavier had tried to speak, but I quickly cut him off.
"It's okay, it won't be too long, and nothing is going to happen," a sly glance was cast at my mother by me. "I am going to try and trust her."
"Ah, thank you daughter," her voice was slick.
"Do not try anything," Xavier hissed. "You're her daughter, it's easy for you to try and see goodness. There is no good."
Desdemona shrugged that off and got up from her side of the table, leaving the one chair to be bare once more.
I followed as she walked out of the tree, casting my final glance at everyone. Once we were out, I turned to my mother and waited for her to talk, but she just stood staring into my eyes.
I started to feel dizzy and my eyelids could no longer stay open. I tried to fight the urge, but it was too strong.
