I tuck Saturday night and Sunday's endeavours with Tom, away for later this afternoon, and shake off the misery of not having seen Ryann since Saturday afternoon. Her research group slept on-site so that they could maximize all working hours before they meet with NASA. I have to pull out my best intellectually-chipper right now. I'm representing this University, and Dr. Yates, and I will not let either down.
I walk into class on day one of the new Uni year and put on my best imitation-professor voice, "Good morning class, I say optimistically, as I know that it's 8:30 on a Monday morning and that at least half, if not three quarters of you are only here because this is a mandatory course for all undergraduate degrees and you couldn't fit a better time-slot for this course into your schedule". Quite a few chuckles – not too bad. Indicators of a lively, positive, relatable group.
I've got their attention, so I continue, "You've landed on an auspicious year to be taking this course, as it coincides with the sesquicentennial anniversary of the death of the planet's last human male. The Day of The Last Man Standing, as it's been referred to now for several years."
I walk dramatically slowly across the auditorium stage to afford my last statement the austerity it deserves. I continue, "It really drives home to us all, how this has evolved into a history class, from the worldwide mandatory civics course for all undergraduate degrees it started out as, 97 years ago. That was when the world was still reeling in fresh pain from the plague. This course will reflect on that difficult time and will evaluate humanity's progress since then."
I love this course personally, as it has allowed me to observe, analyse and admire the constant growth of human success over these past six years that I've taught the course alongside Otto. Heads were nodding their rhetorical affirmation.
"I'm going to ask a question not yet to be answered, so all of you keeners keep your hands down, okay?" The room erupts in giggles, with a few gufas. I love to open with that – it's achieved a good laugh every year now.
"A good place to start in a History of the Unravelling and New World Order Establishment class, is to ask, 'What is global human success?'. That's because it was the first and predominating question tackled by the New World Government. As I hope many of you already know, the NWG was established, directed and supported by an organization known as The Sisterhood, which was established during the onset of the plague and became the foundation of our world's management of The Unravelling fallout."
"As half of the planet's population was being unravelled into extinction, The Sisterhood developed the plan to retro-fit and erect new genetic material silos, they lead the legal and procedural transfer of power from all male-heads of corporate, political, health, educational, and, well, all global sectors, to the most suitable and/or next-in-command females. They proposed a new socio-political order that became the foundation and map to world peace and human fulfillment, fundamentally removing hunger, pain, suffering, and general violations of human rights and dignity, from the human condition."
"The Sisterhood is, for all intents and purposes, the founder and mother of our utopia. Although The Sisterhood evolved into our New World Government, their legacy is distinct in that it was the germination-site of world peace, which before them was an abstract dream, used more as a slogan in 'beauty pageants' perpetuating female objectification, than an actual goal."
I want you to keep this question of human success at the back of your mind, stewing an answer that is both complete and simple. In fact, that question will be your main research assignment later this year, which I will be tasked by Dr. Yates to walk you all through." An adequate level of excited murmurings about the early reveal of future work. It's something that keeners really love, and I seem to have a lot of keeners this year, which will be helpful, as they don't need a while lot from me other than frequent 'Atta' Girls'.
