Silent Treatment

Breaking a promise is the worst thing.

That too when you break a promise to your girlfriend, that's it, you are done for.

I am experiencing it right now, and trust me, it's the worst feeling in the world.

I tried calling her, but it got declined, just like the previous 15. Sighing, I called her once more, and luckily, it got connected.

"Sivaangi Maa sorry!"

No response. "Sivaangi maa bathil sollu."

Silence again. "Naa kelambi varava?" He asked with a hint of concern in his voice.

"Venam"

"Appo pesu! Enna evalo venumo thittiko! Ignore pannatha maa please!" He said, sounding like a puppy in pain.

"Illa Ashwin, you are a busy man, you have tight schedules. You have work, and I know, your career is your first priority. I don't have anything against that. Aana, I wanted to see you. It's been a long time since we saw each other. I planned a date for us when you said you had a free day. And I have been texting you about the date for a week.

You nod your head for everything and suddenly, you don't respond to texts! What am I supposed to imagine? Naa evlo bayandhuten theriyuma? Naa onga kitta ellam ketutu thaane pannen? And what seemed more important to you? Your PlayStation!"

Suddenly the line went quiet. "Sivaangi?"

He looked at the screen, and saw that the call had gotten disconnected. He opened her text that said, 'We will talk later. Enjoy your day off'

Ashwin sighed.

It all started yesterday, when he forgot about lunch date Sivaangi had planned. He was informed of it a week earlier, after he told her that he had three days off. He was as excited for it as her, but his friend called him the night before the date and invited him for a round of gaming the next morning.

Tired of waiting for him, Sivaangi had tried to reach him through his phone, but his number was occupied. She sent a lot of texts asking him if he was okay, but she did not get a reply for over an hour. Deciding she had enough, she went to his place directly, and found him playing on his PS.

"Podra machan avana! Illa da, erangi sudu. Seekrama podu" He was wearing a airpod, talking to his friend. Upon hearing a movement, he turned and found a not-so-pleased Sivaangi standing infront of him.

Just when he realised his mistake, Sivaangi saw his playstation blaring. She walked over to it, took the controller, paused the game and walked back to him and said, "have a good day" and left before he could say a word.

Ever since, he has been trying to contact her. Thinking back, he understood that the mistake was on his part, and that he should have given more importance to his girlfriend, whom he hadn't seen in weeks rather than his gaming.

He could never blame her for wanting to see him, seeing as he was feeling the same. But, growing up with his PS alone, he was tempted to play once he had some time off. He just did not realise how fast the time flew.

Ashwin decided he had enough of her silent treatment. He took his car and zoomed out of his driveway.

Sivaangi was an understanding person.

She was never the overbearing, unreasonable person. But yesterday, she could not control her anger. It was probably because she had a bad week, or because she was just missing him. It hurt her that he could easily forget about their date, and it angered her that he did not even realise he forgot until she came up at his doorstep 2 hours later.
