{here I was originally going to have the drama club all together at Quinn's house, but I changed my mind and decided to have them meet at the school. Which was kind of a bad idea because I wrote like 18 pages on Google docs for it :/ hope you enjoy anyway tho :D Also, from this episode on there will be a lot of song sang with the lyrics in italics. All of the songs I put in here are, from my opinion, amazing. So check em' out if you want ;) }
I smoothed down the pleats of my stupid skirt and sighed. Why did I join the drama club? Hell, it wasn't even a real club, just a group of people without a group. But it was either this or spend the rest of the year alone, so I joined the club. Better then the chess club or Mathletes, I guess. I got up and inspected the casio, pressing the power button and sitting into the creaking piano bench. It drew me in, convincing me to warm up with Jon Caryl. I sank into the feeling of comfort as I started playing.
I'll believe it when I see it
'Cause you said you're moving on...The keys were different then my Brodmann, but I made it through.
Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it
'Cause we both know you're not that strong...God, I loved this song. I figured it out by ear a while ago. I let my fingers fly into chords and pedaled to smooth it together for a few more verses. But then, the chorus.
Roses are red, violets are blue
I don't sleep at night 'cause I'm thinking of you...alone with my thoughts, trapped in this bed. Know I'd give the world just to see you again-The door started opening, a flash of dirty blonde hair caught my eye.
And your imperfections perfectly drawn up...but I was a fool to think you were in love-
I jumped back as Freya came in Mr. Gavin's room. "SHIT!" I scrambled out of the seat and accidentally tipped the bench. "Don't stop!" She cried out. Then drew back. "Sorry-I just meant... it sounded good." Damn it, now she feels bad... I relaxed and gave her a slight smile. "Thanks." Jessie, Ruben, and Avery came in and dropped their bags on empty chairs. "Heya!" "Hi." "Try out the piano yet, Freya?" "No." "Okay...have any songs in mind?" "I got here two minutes ago." Avery flipped out a notepad titled AWESOME SONGS and Jessie snatched it and read it over. "We can't do German death metal at a private school pep rally." She took it back and stuffed it in her pocket poutingly.
"Anyways..." I steered the conversation over to one of my favorite artists. "I have a few song ideas. Well, more like songs from a songwriter." I made sure I had their attention. "Brandi Carlile." "I think I know her..." "What song?" I took a deep breath. "Mainstream Kid." "Are you sure we can do that song? It's kind of..." "Intense? Yeah. But it's really good. Trust me on this." I don't know why I said that because I'd only known them for a week. But hey, we were going to have to perform at a pep rally in three days and we had no song ideas. "Here, I'll pull it up for you..." I went into YouTube and found a live performance. Ruben seemed somewhat impressed with the guitar solo and Oscar was happy with the harmonizing vocals. "Just...one question." Freya asked once the song was over. "Who's gonna sing main vocals?" I haven't thought about that. I just assumed I would sing main. "How about..." Avery started with a gleam in your eye I would soon get to see whenever she had an idea. "A sing off?" "What?" Well, that's better then playing rock paper scissors I guess.
"Despite the fact that a sing off sounds like something from a cliche gacha club mini-movie, I want to watch this." Jessie smirked. We pulled up chairs and all sat down to watch Avery go at it first. She pressed play and the guitar intro sounded. "I'm gonna fit in... I'm on the list I'm gonna get in... haven't you heard and don't you know who I am? I'm with the Joneses I'm their best friend." Her voice was raspy and brought a fun tone to the song, but she didn't have good breath control and couldn't reach the deep notes.
I went next and belted my heart out, trying manipulating my voice to sound like Brandi's. My voice was naturally deep so the low notes were pretty easy. I knew I had a lock on the part until Freya went. Her voice was the opposite of Avery's. Smooth like honey and resonated strongly. You could feel her smile through the song as she sang out the chorus.
I need you to liberate me, you the masses educate me, hold my fist into the air, declare a social liberty. You can own me, you control me, in-di-vi-du-ality has never stood a chance against you, jump into the mainstream!
I knew she was going to win. She was the best singer, and unless she had a freak mistake at the end of the song, she was going to get the main vocals.
Your revolutiioon...into the mainstream...kid...
Her eyes caught mine and her voice broke, making her fall behind the beat and she couldn't finish the song. It was like I used black magic to jinx her so she would mess up. It was honestly very suspicious, but I let it go because I wanted the part so bad. And I got it.
We practiced the song over and over until we knew it was perfect. But the entire time we were singing it all I thought of was the look of hope in Freya's eyes.
