"Ranboo."

The tall figure warmly smiled down at Wilbur.

"It's nice to meet you Ranboo."

"Lovely to meet you too Wilbur. Here, take a cup of tea."

They handed a small mug over to the brunet while gesturing for him to sit down at the small round table. Techno nodded shortly at the questioning look he got from the younger, before he sat down as well.

"So, what brings you out here again Techno? With a friend as well?", Ranboo asked as they turned to take the boiling water away from the small fire place.

The sizzling sounds of the brewing process filled the room.

"It's a long story." Techno started.

"Good that I have time then." Ranboo laughed a bit, accidentally spilling a few drops of the water on his hands.

The sizzling got a lot louder all of a sudden, as the liquid seemed to burn right into his flesh. Wilbur watched confused as the taller didn't even notice the injury. Unbothered, they took a step closer to the table to pour the tea into three small cups.

The flickering light of the candles on the table gave Wilbur the first clearer view of the creature infront of him. Creature, definitely not human. Well maybe partially. The first thing he noticed was the scarring on Ranboos hands, likely the reason why he didn't feel the water burning into them.

The second thing was the unnaturally pale colour half of his face was toned in. The other half was pitch black, only disturbed by thin white scars running down his cheeks from the corner of his eye.

The friendly yet focussed expression on their face while pourring the tea was fascinating. Wilbur had never seen anyone like Ranboo. The way their body almost seemed to float as they walked around the table to sit down with the other two.

The comfortable silence slowly building up since the kettle stopped sizzling felt oddly safe to Wilbur. Maybe it was instead the magical atmosphere the whole house created, he wasn't sure.

"Ranboo," The taller looked up at Techno breaking the quiet air. He flashed a short smile before continuing, "We need your help."

"I figured so, you're usually more talkative when you visit me. What can I do for you? And I'm still curious about your little friend."

Techno had to visibly surpress a giggle as Ranboo called Wilbur little, who was obviously upset about the comment.

"Well, this little friend of mine is Wilbur. I met him on the market a few days ago and I think he could be my brother."

Ranboo stopped the cup at his lips to look up at Techno. "You have a brother?"

Techno shrugged. "I don't know"

Wilbur had been watching the small leaves of his tea float around in the water staining it deep green until he felt Ranboo's gaze burning into him. He slowly looked up at the other, who seemingly noticed the resemblance of the two for the first time now.

"Fascinating.", he mumbled. "And you two have never seen each other before?" He sounded more and more excited now.

Wilbur shook his head slightly, waiting for Ranboo's reaction, who took a long time to study the brunnet's face.

Just as the constant eye contact started to get difficult to hold up, Ranboo got up and walked over to a bookshelf that already looked as if the slightest touch would end its lifetime forever. Surprisingly enough Ranboo pulled out a book looking about as trustworthy as the shelf's construction from the bottom of a pile without damaging anything even slightly.

"I will help you, but I'm most likely right when I assume that you're not just here for a family background check right?"

Techno looked at his old friend grinning before putting the cup up to his lips again and finishing the tea. "You know me too well."

He carefully set the cup back down on the small table, creating a thin circular stain in the old wood.

"You know how much I've been dreaming of a simple life. Just being a normal person, doing normal work with normal responsibilities." Ranboo nodded.

"Meeting Wilbur has been the opportunity. We look identical, even our voices are pretty similar. The only difference is the hair but that isn't something we couldn't change. Do you understand what this means?"

"You want to switch lives with him?"

"Precisely."

Wilbur watched the conversation play out right infront of him. He listened to them talk about him like he wasn't sitting right there. Hearing Techno explain the idea to Ranboo made it sound more ridiculous than it already was.

He let his eyes wander around the house again. His surroundings seemed lighter all of a sudden. His view of Ranboo's furniture was a lot clearer and for the first time since getting here he could make out a small staircase at the end of a hallway leading up to another undiscovered part of Raboo's home.

At some point Wilbur had stopped paying attention to the conversation the other two were having. He was busy with his own mind, only noticing Techno's deep muffled voice from time to time.

Instead he replayed the last few days in his head. He could see Tommy standing in the field again, feeling the unbearing heat while collecting potatoes. He could hear Nicki's friendly chatter and see the sympathetic look on her face when he talked about their money shortage. He could feel Techno's harsh shoulder he walked into that day.

He remembered the panic he felt when he realised who he was. He heard the screaming again. Felt the harsh grip on his collar, his back hitting the wall. He heard himself pleading, axiously accepting the landlord's demands.

He remembered the loneliness. Loosing all his hope in that moment. Then Techno appeared again. Seemingly being there whenever he falls back to pick him up. He remembered the frustration he felt when he asked about their family again. The unfair things he said to him.

The last week had felt like a whole year of events. He hadn't realised how exhausted he was. Not physically, mentally. Wilbur had not once taken time to breathe and just be. Tommy, their money, Techno, the landlord, they'd all been his main concerns.

He hadn't noticed the voices around him getting more and more quiet. Were they still there?

His eyes were fixated on a now blurry part of Ranboos kitchen and for some odd reason he didn't feel strong enough to take them off of it.

Was that Techno calling his name? Or maybe it was Ranboo, he couldn't really tell. He couldn't really tell if it actually was his name either, it sounded foreign to him.
