"Hey doc, we need you out here!" Someone says as they come running into my office, I'm on my lunch break right now but seeing as they've come and found me, there must be no one else.
I act quickly, I snatch some surgical gloves and a mask before heading out into the hallway where a bunch of people are rushing a stretcher into a surgical room. I rush into the room after the people and I can finally see the patient for myself.
"What happened?" I ask as I put on my uniform and prepare to do what I must to save this persons life.
"A stab wound, lower abdomen. We think it missed any major organs but there's a lot of bleeding." Someone says as they push down on the woman's wound.
"Okay I need a local anaesthetic and I need to know what blood type she is, we're going to need to perform a blood transfusion."
The next thing on my mind is stopping the bleeding. Thankfully, the knife wasn't serrated so when she pulled it out, her organs didn't come with it. There is a lot of internal bleeding and I'm going to need to sow or burn the blood vessels shut, that way the bleeding stops.
"BP is 70 over 50 and BPM is at 120!" Someone yells over all of the chaos.
I take a set of forceps and prop the wound open, after a quick assessment I come to the conclusion that in order to stop the bleeding I need to perform a exploratory laparotomy, where I burn the end of the vessel.
"Does anyone have her blood type, we need to get a transfusion right away." I yell as I grab the equipment I need to stop the rapid bleeding. The girl looks very pale, and I'm not sure she has long to live.
"Dr. Grey you're not going to believe this but... she's Rh-Null." The male says as he walks in with the results of her blood type. I'm all my years as a surgeon I've never heard of any patient, nor anyone I've worked with witness an Rh-Null.
Everyone in the room freezes, as no one really knows what to do in a situation like this. Rh-Null is a blood type so rare that it's suspected that only 43 people in history have 'golden blood'. And one of them is lying on my table.
"Okay, a transfusion is out of the question! I need some erythropoietin so we can help her when she's stopped bleeding. We need to perform a exploratory laparotomy!" I yell as another member of staff hands me the tools required to burn the wound shut.
"Hold my hand." The patient mumbles, making it known that she has been conscious this whole time.
"Can someone get her under anaesthetic please!" I yell in frustration, I've been pulling and probing the gash and this whole time she's been able to feel it, I feel even worse for her now.
"I'm not going to hold your hand, you know why? Because your going to live." I mumble as I see another doctor insert the needle into her arm, meaning she doesn't have much time awake.
"Hold my hand." She repeats, and the look in her eyes says a thousand words, and yet I can pick out the only one that matters.
Fear.
"Im not gonna hold your hand, because your not dying. You hear me, you're not dying today." I say and moments later she's under, meaning I can save her life now.

I wake up, but eyelids refuse to open. Then the most excruciating pain shoots up my entire body and I yelp in pain.
Then I feel a hand in mine, a soft and warm hand. I want to squeeze it with the same intensity the owner is, and yet I can't muster the strength. Then, once I've gained the strength, I open my eyes and for a moment they adjust to the sudden change in light. But when they do I find that it's a person I've never seen before, and yet she looks so familiar.
