Chapter 2
I wake up with a start, my breath fast and rushed like I had been submerged forcefully into water and then brought to the surface. My throat burned with certain intensity.
My thoughts shoots back to what my mind had played inside my head. What I saw was not normal, at least I know what normal is. But whatever I saw had some kind of familiarity to it, like I knew the place.
It could have been an illusion but my constant gut feeling forced me to think otherwise.I look around not sure of what to expect but all I see is sand. I keep walking for what seems like hours hoping I'm somewhat going towards---
My head hits on something hard and rigid. Almost like I hit a wall. I regain my balance and try to focus my eyes on the peculiar object that I just bumped into.
Nothing.
I try squinting but I still see nothing, there was nothing in front of me and yet I managed to slam my body into something. I gingerly stretch out my shivering hand in front of me and feel the hard object again, it stretched a lot further than I thought and I couldn't help but wonder as to where it led to.
Making sure no one was around me one last time, I start jumping hysterically and slapping the wall to see how high it was and no matter how high I jumped or how much I stretched my hand I just couldn't feel the end of the wall.
Suddenly I hear a sound, though soft but not inaudible. A laugh? More like a chuckle. Some one was following me. My heart lifts up and a smile gets plastered onto my face before dropping back as I realize the things this person must have seen me do. I turn around slowly, a little ashamed, but there is yet again no one behind me, no footprints either.
My heart begins to beat faster, I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins and flight was definitely overpowering fight. I resisted the urge to scream and runaway but thinking of the possibility of getting kidnapped or murdered in a desert seemed childish and dumb to be afraid of. There was no one here after all.
I am brought out of my thoughts by a loud 'ha' coming from somewhere dangerously close by. It was the kind of sound that accidentally slips out when trying to stifle a laugh. The insane and completely gullible part of my brain begins to take control and I begin to think that maybe I am not alone at all, maybe this desert is haunted, out of the places the ghost could go, maybe just maybe it chose this desert because why not.
I was definitely going crazy but things began to seem too real to me, the strange sounds in an utterly quiet place, me seeing those visions, it just all made sense.
I quicken my pace, whether someone was after me or not I was getting myself out of here alive. Registering the place as too creepy for my own good, I jump into a sprint and go as fast as I can keeping one hand on the wall I just found. I turn to look back one more time.
Wrong move.
I forget to keep track of the wall and bang into another invisible one as it takes a sharp turn, my vision blackens oh no not again....
'I whirl around and I see the same guy smiling down at me "Hey , what's up!" I reply with relief "Hey Michael what are you doing here so early? And try not to sneak up on me like that the next time? Ok?"
"Yeah sorry about that. But there's practice for a play today so only the people acting in it are supposed to go. And ill TRY not to sneak up on you." I roll my eyes and take a sip of the orange juice.
