Check for a brown leather jacket, combed hair, and a pleasant fragrance, all features on him. Detective Wan holds an envelope with information that shook him enough to keep him awake all night. After a very long breathes, he took a step into the room of the Chief of Police of Bukit Aman.
" Can you explain yourself sir!? " He ruthlessly threw a paper with an open envelope on the table of his boss.
Speechless and stunned " Wait Wan, this--, where you got this document " Chief Razak lost in words after saw that document.
The publication details a hidden fund set up with the police by Datuk Arman, the victim's father, to run his election campaign. Datuk Arman conducted these transactions in order to lobby for his appointment as the new Minister of Education during the next government term.
The proof of bribery and fraud involving a number of higher-ranking officials was also detailed in that document. The most startling part was the large number of receivers identified in the ledger, one of which was the Chief of Police himself, Chief Razak, who was also his closest university senior.
" Someone leave this inside officer Danielle's home mailbox " He standing still infuriates with his senior.
Chief Razak gulped down his saliva, " Have you identified or discovered the person that left this?"
" That's not a right question sir!!! " The tone eventually increases with it with the level of his disappointment. " The only question now is why your name included in this list? "
Intimidated with his junior anger, Chief Razak still keeping shut his mouth not to let any miswords exited.
" Sure, keep being a puppet sir, I will not asking your permission to used this information to help my investigation " He retrieved the paper and put it back inside the envelope, " Don't blame me if the information reach the public "
Chie Razak quickly grab his hand " No, we cannot disclose all this information "
He shakes his hand off from Chief Razak's grip and stares him down fiercely. " Why? "
" Wan, I can explain to you later but believe me that information has nothing to do with Sarah's death " He dodged the question.
" This must be related in some way " He says, shaking his head. " That's why I want to use this information to shift my direction of investigation "
" Just focus on your current investigation!!! " The man on that was put in the hot spot finally raised his voice. " Please, let another team handle this case " He appealed again with a soft voice.
" Senior, please let me get into this with my team " He changes his approach and pleads earnestly.
" Nope, my answer is still a no " Chief Razak firmly replied.
Detective sighed heavily and gaze at the ceilings frustrated by this situation " Why you so reluctant sir if you're not commit any of this " He shrugs with a slightly crooked smile " Or... do you really involve in this political scandal? "
" Watch your mouth Wan! " His cheeks flared perhaps offended by those words " It just because I don't want you to ruin your career by going after a person that you cannot touch "
He sneered at those words " Don't try to act like you care about me senior "
" Wan, listen to me, you cannot use a harpoon to catch a shark " Coated word of advice were conveyed with a tinge of warning, " It will only hurt you " He added tenderly.
Detective Wan holds up the brown envelope looking belligerent, " I will make the shark bleed sir even thought it will only leaves a small scar " After a threatening words thrown by him, he turn and stormed exited the room
" WAN!!! " " WAN!!! " Chief of police shouted helplessly to stop him.
The effort turn into meaningless shout as the man was really determined to expose the information. It's fascinating how greed can turn into a two-edged sword that may even corrupt the kindest soul on the planet. All evil stems from a desire for money and power. Back while he was at university, Chief Razak was someone he admired highly. It dismayed him a lot to learn that someone he admired had committed something like this.
Detective Wan's triumph was no doubt difficult, as he was unassuming at best, and even his bond with his superior, the chief of police, appeared to be based on a similar sort of connection. He wonders if he has a right to be enraged at his superior because he has exploited the link to accomplish his own things in the past. The document's leak might culminate in the prosecution that shook an entire country.
A small figure of a woman may be seen timidly waiting in front of Detective Wan's steel door. The confrontation had everyone on the edge of their seats. Nobody in the past would dare to speak out against the Chief of Police, much alone raise such a tone. Only Detective Wan has a steel ball with which to battle his superior.
" Let me rest my head for ten minutes, Danielle " he remarked as he walked past Danielle, who stood in front of the door, antsy waiting for him. Danielle was also flabbergasted by the situation, having never witnessed him act in such a manner throughout her time working with him.
Judging by his senior's reaction, he's almost certain that the information he's gotten is legitimate. The case has now completely altered the investigation's tenor. A new approach is required. Why is this information being released now? Why was Sarah's father's name featured in the list specifically? Is this just the killer's way of distracting him? Is it true that this case involves a political nasty game? Thousands of thoughts and questions swarmed inside his head like a parasite, relentlessly devouring his sanity.
One silhouette really catch his attention since he sat on his leather chair " Just enter Danielle, I can see you " He invite her inside as he realised Danielle was still patiently waiting for him outside the office, making him feel unsettled.
" Okayyy " She answered enthusiastically before entering the office with a broad smile wore on her face.
" Do you truly wait there as long as I tell you to? " With a shake of his head, he expresses his incredulity, " Why don't you just go to your own desk and wait there? "
Still smiling with her rabbit teeth and flashing her gum, Danielle replied " I just want to make you feels guilty " She suddenly put an a energy drink on the desk " Cheer up boss! "
" Cheeky " " So cheeky " He open the drink " Anyway, thank you " He took a drink of the beverage.
Danielle beamed looking his boss finally crafted a smile. " I know, that the feud just now with the chief caused by that document " " So, I'd like to ask if we want to continue with the interrogation," Danielle said as she took a step backward.
He smirked " Of course, in any case it is important because we can clear up them from the accusation, then I can solely focus the investigation to that document "
" So, just to remind you, you'll be questioning the second member of the group today." She sneered, her lips pursed " In case you forgot about it "
" Sure " " Of course I remember, " He chuckled, " I don't have a short term memories like you " He throw a jab to teased his subordinates.
" Soooo, of course you remember that the interrogation time is now right? " She gave a mocking grin.
" What!? " He exclaims before he jab his phone screen to find out the time " Damn five minutes more " He rose quickly from his seat and sprint outside.
" Wait for me! " Danielle is gob smacked by his swift action and hurries to catch up from behind.
After a few sweats drop, He abruptly stop in front of the door of interrogation room. Like changing a character from a video game, Detective Wan turns his expression to be more menacing before he enters the room. Emotion of the interrogator played a huge role in this game of questioning. Such a professionalism action by Detective Wan leaving Danielle in awe even though he witness that multiple time before, but still in her eyes it never get old.
