May, her friends, and few of her relative that weren't busy that day, accompanied May to a shopping trip to find the bride-to-be a dress that she would for her wedding day in the couple of days from now.
May had wanted her mother to come with her for this special occasion but it was like her mother had disappeared off the face of the earth. So she couldn't get in contact and her step-father and brothers would sometimes give half-ass responses about her whereabouts. She had been acting like this since May told her the news about the experiment and the fact that she would be married to, someone she didn't know, but didn't know what he looked, sound like, or even a background about the guy.
Sitting at on the sofa of the wedding boutique as she waited for the type of dress she asked the store clerk what she wanted, she thought back to that day.
————————————————————————
"Mom, Marcus, I have something to tell you."
May had her parents sitting in the dining room confused, it had to something very important if she had them sit in the dining room. They only use it during holidays and when family comes over."What's the matter May? When you got here you've been stiff, like you have a gun on your back." Her step-father stated. She sat across from them and took a deep breath.
"Well because what I want to tell you is very important, it involves my future," Her parents were silent and she continued. "You remember when I got transferred to the New York library right?"
"Oh yes! I was going to ask how it you were settling in, since you started you seemed different." Her mother noticed May would zone out from time to time, not like when she would dream, but really her mind would be gone somewhere and her expression would turn stressed, nervous, sometimes fear, and one instance she caught smile while just sitting on a chair looking a corner of a table.
"It's good mom, but it's not that. Something happened that week that I need you to prepare for this week." Her parents grew worried. Then she started to explain; from start to finish.
After when she finished, parents were silent for a few moments, she wanted them to take everything in.
"Now you know why I've been acting strange." She waiting more. Nothing.
"May. Hold on," Her mother started, "You applied to be part of a love experiment, to not only marry someone, that one: you have no decision of who they are, because you've NEVER met them. Two: You have to stay and be fully committed for a YEAR; to decide if you'll stay together or not and get a real DIVORCE. Three: Why are you just telling us just now?!" Her mother looked at her frustrated. May wanted to shrink in her chair, she knows that her mother hates being left out of her life, esspesally if she's being told thing at the last minute. "Little girl-" Her step-father jumps in, trying to calm his wife down.
"Now, honey, I'm sure May has a logical explanation for everything." He looks at for comfirmation and she nods quickly and explains.
"Mom, I couldn't tell anyone until I knew for sure I would be accepted." She goes on explain the interviews about herself, her life, what she wants, etc and surveys and tests she had to take, "I'm also going somewhere and i wanted to tell you espeually mom." Her mother squinted her eyes at her.
"You're crazy. What is it?"
"Bridal shopping."
"No."
May and her step-father was taken aback, "No," her mother collected herself, closing her eyes and puts her hands on her forehead as her husband rubbed her back as May sat there clenching her fists under the table. "Not no, as in I don't want to come."
"Then what do you mean." May tilted her head giving slight attudue her mother gave a warning look before contiuning.
"I mean no, as in, this is going too fast. I'm happy you're getting married! But May, You dont even know who they are."
