The school wasn't far from his home, but his agreeing to
her offer - whether consciously or subconsciously - wasn't
just to help her out. The truth was, he was flattered by her
offer. She made him feel desired, which invigorated him and
gave him a sense of renewal. He knew carpooling would
bring with it the opportunity of spending some private time
with her, and the prospect of that notion gave him
something to look forward to.
Julianne set her fork down and took a drink before
responding.
"Well, I don't know her all that well, even though I met her
during her interview. She seems nice."
Julianne's mind was spinning to come up with a reason to
deny Ethan. She didn't want him spending time alone with
another woman. Even if it were only for a few brief minutes.
Still, she couldn't think of anything that bore any semblance
to a reasonable rebuttal.
She swallowed hard, "A little extra money would be nice."
