A sob formed in her chest and was heaved out by her breath
through the pain that was now growing in her throat. She
looked again at the clock. I have to pull myself together. No
more crying. That's enough. That's enough for today.
"Huh!" She laughed softly to herself, "That's enough for a
lifetime, really."
She filled two plates with noodles and carried them both
over to the dinner table, placing them down across from one
another. He should be here any minute now .
Her mind, especially in this cold silence, found deviant ways
of occupying itself and none of those ways Julianne
considered pleasant, so she focused on herself. She walked
the few brief steps from the kitchen to the hall and checked
her reflection in the hallway mirror. She looked a mess.
"Seriously, Julianne!" She huffed to herself as she dabbed
the corners of her eyes, patted her cheeks and fluffed her
hair. She turned and went to sit back down.
Waiting on Ethan seemed to be the theme of her life lately
and as she sat back down, she couldn't help looking at the
clock once more. Her stomach growled, insisting that it be
filled. She lolled her head back onto her shoulders, glancing
briefly at the ceiling before closing her eyes and letting out
a long, slow breath.
