"You've got to be kidding me," The sandy brown-haired boy says, glaring at Deion incredulously.
"We're not fucking climbing this gate," Alister continues and Deion tilts his head to the side.
"Why not?" Deion asks and Alister glances from the large gate back to the boy standing in front of him.
"Because it's trespassing?" Alister deadpans and Deion rubs the back of his head, blowing out an exasperated sigh.
"Climb the fence," Deion says and Alister laughs sarcastically. "No-" Alister responds.
"Climb the fence, or I will put you on my back and carry you up the fence while I climb," Deion continues, crossing his arms over his chest.
"You wouldn't," Alister responds, shaking his head and Deion laughs before charging at him and picking him up off the ground by his thighs.
"LET ME DOWN," Alister shouts as Deion begins to climb the fence.
"You better hold on if you don't want to fall off," Deion says over his shoulder, laughing while he climbs.
"Deion, I swear if you don't let me down," Alister threatens but before he can finish his sentence they are sitting at the very top of the gate.
"That wasn't so bad, was it?" Deion questions, glancing sideways at him.
"Ye...yeah," Alister responds in a low tone, as he sucks in a sharp breath.
"Whoah, man, you alright?" Deion asks, glancing nervously at him.
"I guess now would be a bad time to mention my very well accustomed fear of heights?" Alister says nervously, laughing despite his darting eyes.
"Fuck, man, I didn't know, I wouldn't have..." Deion says and Alister shakes his head sharply.
"Don't worry about it, it is nice up here," Alister says as he sucks in another breath.
"Yeah, nice... despite my fear of impending doom associated with high objects," He whispers to himself, and Deion chuckles.
"You'll be alright," Deion responds and Alister swallows nervously before nodding his head slowly.
No words were spoken for a very long time after that moment, but then again, no words had to be spoken. They both understood. Not every thought had to be stated aloud for the other person to get the message.
And for that night, the message was quite clear to Alister, and to Deion.
You're not alone.
