“there are always options and it's always your choice—”
Hoseok watched her, watched how her face was devoid of any emotions, her hair a curtain. Her lashes hid what she was thinking and her lips didn't move to tell him what was going through her mind.
Yet, here they sat, swinging back and forth in the dark playground. He could tell she had something on her mind, he had too. But he didn't feel the need to speak up despite being the first to reach out to her.
The only sound between them was the creaking of the metal, the swing an old thing. The air was a little humid today, the puddles here and there an indication of rain. He somehow wished it rained right now, wash away whatever that had her so glum.
She stopped abruptly, her hand going into her coat pocket as she pulled out an all too familiar white box. "Do you mind?" she asked in a mere whisper, her hands already pulling out a smoke stick with the lighter ready.
"What if I do mind?" he asked instead making her stop and let out a laugh. With a shaking hand, she lowered the lighter and looked at him. "Right, passive smoking is just as dangerous as active."
"Despite knowing that you smoke."
"I will go crazy if I don't," she replied, looking down at her feet. He observed her a few more seconds before he sighed. "I don't mind you smoking, I just mind where you do it." Without another word, he pulled something out of his pocket, putting his hand in front of her.
Migyung looked at his hand then at his smiling face before letting her cold hand brush his warm one, taking what he offered. She stared at the stick in her hand for a moment, wondering if she should really put all that pure sugar in her mouth.
Hoseok couldn't help but chuckle seeing her frowning at the lollipop. "A little treat is not going to make you look like an elephant," he said, popping his lollipop in his mouth, smacking his lips soon after as the taste of sugar hit his tongue.
"It does," she said adamantly, licking the candy a little to know its taste. It was pure caramel and that was the final nail, melting her resolve. "When you wear a leotard," she said around the candy, "you can see every body roll. Oh gosh, I don't remember the last time I had a lollipop." She groaned, now fully immersed in enjoying her treat.
He hummed thoughtfully as he glanced at the dark sky above them. "Are you going to wear one in the nearby future?" His question made her smile fall and her feet stop. She pulled out the stick, licking her lips, thinking if she should tell him the truth or not but one look at his soft face and she gave in. He had that effect on her.
She let out a breath as she spoke, "I wear one every morning, right before the sun rises." Hoseok nodded not asking for her to elaborate when she didn't. By now he had come to understand that she spoke when she wanted to and often it was either a half-truth or half-lie, no in between.
