The time changes to midnight when I'm in the car driving home. My mom parks the car in the driveway and we start walking to the house to go to bed.
The morning cane by really fast. It seemed like I only slept for about few minutes. I grab my clothes and head you the bathroom to get changed. As soon as I walk in, I spot myself in the mirror and the startling realization that today was most likely the last day I will ever see my normal skin again. I brush my hand against my tan skin, it's soft and uncorrupted, my left eye is still a shade of dark brown. The rest of my body on the other hand is still the same black color. My takes me to David's house because he need a ride to school. We got dropped off at school and we went to our classes. The first three periods were so boring that I wanted to go home and do chores. David and I meet up during lunch, so he can tell me what I missed.
"The girl you've been crushing on had a nervous breakdown, the school accidentally froze the milk, and I think that is it." he said as he frantically ate mashed potatoes.
"Alyssa had a nervous breakdown?" I said concerned.
"Yah." he said with a full mouth.
"Wow," I said, "Can I have some potatoes?
He have me a couple scoops while I was thinking about her. I started eating potatoes when she passed by me. David nudged me with his elbow and jerked his head in her direction.
"Now's your chance." he said through bites of food.
I nervously get up and walk towards her.
"Hey Alyssa, I was wonderi-Woah you're eyes are a really nice green. Didn't you have brown eyes last week? Are those contacts?" I say with some confidence.
"You can see my green eyes." she said with a smile.
"Yeah." I say unsure.
"Hold on let me concentrate." she said. Alyssa closed her eyes and focused really hard on something. She opened her eyes and gasped."Oh my."
"What's wrong?"
"Your skin is completely black and your eyes have changed too."
"How can you see me like this and why are you the only one?"
She reaches into her bag and pulls out an old, worn out book and hands it to me.
"Thank you." I tell her. I turn around and start walking to David, but she stops me
"I would've said yes, but I might be leaving Friday." she tells me quietly. Alyssa steps forward and kisses me on the cheek. "Bye."
I head to my seat with the biggest grin on my face.
"I thought you were going to get shut down," David said, "What did she give you?"
I hand him the book and takes it and opens it.
"Dude! She left you her number." said David.
"Really."
"Yeah, look at the book."
He shows me the number and underneath it was a set of strange figures. The language it was written in was odd, but strangely familiar. I realized that it was written in Greek. It took me a couple of minutes to translate, but it said "message me if you have questions, A." I wanted to read the book, so I called my mom and told her to pick me up because I didn't feel good. She dropped me off at home and I instantly sat on the couch and started reading. Thankfully the book was in English. Into contained the history of the Greek gods and goddesses. I continued reading it till I went to bed. I read up to the part were it was explaining that the gods had fighting tournaments every thousand years.
How funny, I thought to myself, they are always portrayed as responsible adults that took their jobs seriously, but in reality they were like teenagers goofing off.
I get off my bed, Leroy growls at me, because I disturbed him, and flick the light switch.
