A day before the dance and all I managed to get is a maybe, I think. There is still hope, if I get to see Alyssa today then I'll hopefully be going to the dance. I'm still laying in bed deciding if I should go to school it stay home to finish the book I'm reading. I end up choosing just because I might get a date. I got up, got ready, and drove myself to school. First period seemed to take forever,it seemed like it took hours, second period was just as bad, but third flew by because a student and the teacher got into a debate. It was finally lunch and David was nowhere to be seen. I bought myself some chips, found a table, and sat down to eat. While I was eating someone sat down in front of me. I look up and notice that it is Alyssa."Hi." I say to her.
"Meet after school, by the gym." she said.
"Why?" I ask, she gets up and walks away.
She doesn't reply to me. The next three periods went by fast because I was reading her book. I managed to finish before the final bell rang. The end of the book seemed sad to me. The Greek gods were slowly dying one by one because the human race stopped believing in them. The last to die was Ares, god of war. The book also mentioned that the gods put their abilities in people that suited their personalities. Those people would pass the power down until a generation was worthy enough to become gods.
Why would she give this to me, I thought, is she trying to tell me something? Can I be one of these descendants?
The final bell rings and I walked to the gym and waited. After five minutes, I see her walking up the stairs leading to the gym.
"Follow me," she said quietly," I don't anyone to hear us talking."
She walks around the gym and to the back of it.
"Now what?" I ask her.
"You read the book right?"
"Yeah."
The whole thing?"
"Yes."
"I discovered that we are that generation, we are those descendants."
"How do we use the powers?"
"I'm not sure, but you can figure it out, eventually."
"What do I have to do?"
She looks around to make sure no one is around listening.
"Do do you know?" I ask her.
"No, but I have to go I need to start travelling. I need start my journey." she said.
"Journey?"
"Everyone who receives the power must travel to Olympus. Don't worry you'll start your's soon."
There was a moment of silence and we both looked at each other. I move my hand to caress the side of her face. I lean in and kiss her, she kisses me back but then she breaks away and leaves me there. I just stood there watching her go, confused about what just happened. After a while, I walk to my car and there is a note on it. It said good luck. She was nowhere to be seen, I took the note and put it in my wallet. I was bummed our on the way home. My mom was home and I really did not want to talk to anybody at all. I walk, say hi, and run to my room before she responds. I start packing done things I'll need for my journey like clothes, my water bottle with a filter, and some extra shoes. Thankfully, it all for into a single back pack.
My mom knocks on my door and asks, "Are you doing okay?"
"Yeah I'm just tired and wanted to lie down." I tell her.
"Oh okay. I'm leaving tonight dinner is on the stove." she said sounding concerned.
"Okay. Have a good time." I say depressed. I had to stop my self from crying because this is most likely the last time I will ever speak with my mom.
"Bye, sweetheart." my said as she walked down the stairs.
I lie down in my and take a nap. The last time I will sleep in this bed.
