Confusion for the better

"Why have you been absent so long, son, tell me!" Gerald screamed louder than he had ever done before. For the fifth time now he'd asked this question and still Crimson refused to answer.

"I don't have to tell you anything, Gerald!" He could barely finish the sentence before his father slammed the baseball bat into his face another time. The abused son spat on the hallway where they were in this moment when he felt two teeth which were only one next punch away of falling out of his mouth. The blood had its typical metallic taste, but feeling so numb, Crimson didn't even regocnize it anymore.

Gerald let the baseball bat fall on the ground. "You'll wipe the floor," he said and left without another word.

Not being able to hold the tension any longer which he needed to stand, Crimson let himself fall. His head unfortunately smacked onto the concrete of which the ground of the hallway consisted and he kept lying there, slowly losing his consciousness.

His vision already had faded completely when his sister came to him, lifted him up from the floor with her arms and put him on the mattress in his room next to the hallway where Crimson almost always slept during the night since his life had begun. That his sister took care of him was more than exceptional. Her name was Lilith and she didn't even know where their parents exactly had gone. Probably to the office of the Cult, she thought, because that was the place they mostly were at when they weren't at home to find a reason to hurt Crimson.

It was a mystery to Lilith why they never had focused on her. She hadn't ever got the attention a lot of other kids always wished to get from their parents when they were young. That didn't bother her anyway, knowing that she wasn't the one being pushed around like a lifeless object.

When she was born, Joanne and Gerald at first raised her like a normal child - in a way how it mostly happened with children who grew up in this country. It was only when Crimson came to life the parents turned the back on Lilith and she had to worry about problems on her own - how to cope with other people who lived nearby, for instance. She was allowed to go outside for anything she wished for, not like her smaller brother. Of course that also had its disadvantages and one of them were older, let's say immature men who sometimes approached her as if they knew her. They tried to do some small talk with her before they got serious in a sexual way Lilith had never asked for - mainly because of her style and appearance; possibly her blond, curly hair, her light green eyes or the colorful skirts she liked to wear and which made her look juvenile again. Lilith of course never got in closer contact with those men and all she hoped for was that noone would ever force her to.

Other than that, she had been curious what the Cult was and was able to steal some literature related to that topic: A few years ago at her school's library she had looked for books about the Cult and whenever Joanne and Gerald weren't at home and Crimson wasn't in her room she read in the books.

The Cult was lead by creatures, it said, who lived in the socalled Kathrenian universe. Apparently, it was another world next to the one Crimson's family were living in. You got into it only if you got in contact with one of the creatures and survived. They killed everyone around them if they got a chance to visit planet earth for a sort of patroling. Most of the one's who survived then would visit the Kathrenian universe and would never return from there. It was a one-way ticket.

The creature's goal was to simply eradicate earth, bring everyone necessary to the Kathrenian universe and make the home planet for human beings and other animals explode. What they used the survivors from that planet for noone knew. Some thought they just worked as slaves and were treated like trash. Another rumor told about transforming the humans from earth into creatures because they couldn't mate on their own, therefore always needing other living beings to make their race survive in the Kathrenian universe.
