When he heard Lilith and Scarlet both explain everything they knew to him it all slowly started to make sense; the pieces of the puzzle fit together and there were only a few more missing.

He had already told them about a few of the questions Gyrthon had asked him - those important moments before the torture sessions started which he still could partly remember and also never would forget.

There were those different universes, in total four of them if you also included the Kathrenian universe. One of them was completely unknown to humanity, it seemed. Where the Cult operated, neither Lilith nor Scarlet could tell, and the others had absolutely no idea.

"At some point Gyrthon asked me something rather confusing," Crimson kept going with describing what had happened in the prison. "He wanted to know which energy flows through my veins. Not only he phrased the question in a weird way, but I don't know why that was so interesting for him. I can't believe he cares a lot about what keeps me going."

Lilith and Scarlet looked at each other.

"As it seems," Scarlet said, "you haven't understood one main purpose of the Cult yet - and one of their biggest problems: They want to find people who are strong enough in their opinion and who work for them as slaves. If they believe you have the potential, but end up as an objector, they sometimes still let you live because they hope you'd change your mind. That's not what happened in your case though, I believe." Scarlet glanced again at Lilith who shrugged her shoulders. "What I'd say is that the Cult see a secret you have. It's somewhere hidden in your soul. So a second purpose for the Cult - other than to find slaves - is to figure out what that secret is. And that's where their problem begins: The creatures don't feel anything. They once were born because evolution decided to give them life. Now they exist and look for something they cannot develop. I'm talking about all the power that makes you fight and always survive, Crimson." She paused only for a second. "Have you ever wondered why you have those massive amounts of energy flowing through your heart each day even though your parents made you feel horrible and even bigger amounts of pain?"

That gave Crimson something to think about. "No," he answered with all his honesty although the question was quite rhetorical after all.

"It's something you have - something everyone should have and everyone can develop," Lilith said. "I kept my distance from you because of mom and dad, but those times are over now; it's time to turn the tables." She smiled at him as if she actually was happy about their dead parents.

That's why Crimson shook his head. "They didn't die for nothing, that's for sure." He wasn't even aware anymore of how Gerald and Joanne had behaved to him; he knew it wasn't them who had tried to ruin his life. Only those damn creatures were stuck behind almost everything negative he had gone through. Then another thought he couldn't find the sense for came to his mind: "Gyrthon first almost drowned me a couple of times and took some electric cables to give me some shocks. Why didn't I die there?"

"It's because of the laws of physics in the Kathrenian universe," Sheila came into the conversation. "We talked about it, remember? It's not only Scarlet's backpack or my bow that can change its shapes - and for your disadvantage the laws of physics are different in some other sorts of ways, for example the ones for water and electricity."

They didn't talk for half a minute. Crimson kept Sheila's last words in his thoughts until they sank into his long-term memory. Then he tried to move his head in the direction where Lilith sat. "How did you get here? How did you find me? We haven't even talked about that yet," he figured.

"Well, that's a quite long story," she said and smiled although the past couple of months hadn't been comfortable at all for her. "I got here like Deric and Fiona did, but two months later. The creatures really had an eye on me. I had enough power and luck to escape them dozens of times. As soon as I got here I looked for a raffler. I found one in a closed castle and..."
