First attack

There they were: The first creatures Crimson saw in this world. As he looked at them, coming from a side path with beautifully blossoming flowers, he thought of the creatures he'd met on earth. He wondered where they now were and forgot about it when him and Sheila were attacked by those other creatures. This time they had some big wings which made them fly.

They were throwing fireballs at them inside of which something glowed in a deep red tone of color. Both Crimson and Sheila managed to draw aside so that none of the fireballs of the creatures hit them. Even though there already was light in the garden the young man's eyes needed their time to get used to the light which the creatures weapons were able to spread. He got distracted by that while Sheila held a piece of wood in her hand...

Crimson wanted to look again to see what his companion was holding on to, but he decided to pay more attention to their enemies. Sheila would know what she did. She has some experience of how life is lived down here, she'll save me if necessary, Crimson thought. It was a bit naive - not that he didn't want to defend himself, he just had no idea how.

The next thing he could see when he looked at Sheila was a bow and arrow. She constantly shot her kind of munition up to the creatures, making them fall lifelessly to the ground one by one. Sometimes she glanced at Crimson, just to make sure he was still standing there. "We have to get closer to them," Sheila said when she took a small quiver out of her jacket to take all the arrows she still had left for now.

"What are you saying? We'd commit suicide if we did that!"

Sheila fiercely shook her head. "When we're bellow them it makes it harder for them to shoot their fireballs at us. Trust me."

How often he had heard this short sentence since yesterday... But did he have a choice now? That thought made him nod. "I do trust you in this moment. Let's see if I regret it."

While new fireballs flew at them Crimson kept heading past the ones which were supposed to hit him if he didn't move all the time. As he came closer to the creatures he heard their screeching sounds. He didn't even know until now that he had been so far away from them. The sound coming from the human's enemies was one of the worst sounds Crimson had ever heard, he was sure of it.

When he saw another creature way behind the others it was too late already: It shot a fireball at him and it flew so fast - as fast as the others before, to tell the truth Still, this time he wanted to draw aside again, failed at taking action in the way he had planned to and the fireball slammed itself on his back which immediately started to burn. Crimson screamed so loud that he couldn't even hear the creatures anymore and it got very uncomfortable for his own ears. Nonetheless that was his way - as the way of all the other few humans he knew - to deal with the pain. He just screamed way louder than others.

What had happened to Sheila? He didn't know. He also didn't lose his consciousness which made this very situation so much worse for him. It felt like glowing iron burning on his back. His parents never had dared to burn parts of his body because that wasn't how they had wanted to torture him, but the pain he felt didn't only come from the flames. Crimson knew it somehow and he guessed it had to do something with the center of the fireball in its typical red color. He made the fire extinguish by rolling around on the ground and that was all he was capable of doing before he shut his eyes, hoping to forget about what had just happened to him... which didn't work of course.

"Crimson! Crimson!" Finally the help came he had waited for: Sheila carefully took off his half burnt jacket and t-shirt he had worn, took a medium sized tube out of her own jacket and spread its contents on his back. It was a cream of some sort which had the result of cooling the wound. It felt really good although the pain lasted and wouldn't go away for a couple of weeks to come.
