Running a hand through his hair, the man finally stopped walked as the nen wore off. Akari's Whisper had only made him go as far as the end of the hallway before it dissipated, leaving the man to his thoughts.

"Damn-it!~" His hand slammed against the wall, disappointment settling across his face. He couldn't understand, couldn't fathom why she wouldn't accept his apology.

He'd apologized right? OK, maybe he'd been to harsh when teasing her, but that was all part of the fun, right?

Right?

Pain sizzled in her chest as she switched on the bathroom light on, glaring at herself in the mirror.

Akari was pissed. At herself, at Hisoka..honestly at everyone.

"He's so fucking dumb! Why did he have to come back?!" Hissing softly she slammed her hand down onto the counter. She couldn't shake the question pestering her; Did she make a mistake? Was it right to deny him an apology after he came after her? Should she really have shooed him away after he came to her, begging for her forgiveness?

A quiet sob made its way up her throat before Akari silenced it, clenching her hands into fists. "This is stupid!" Letting a few more tears corse down her cheeks, the ravenette turned the knob to the shower all the way to hot, water flushing from the spicket.

'What if you were wrong?'

She stopped moving. "Goddamn why- why am I thinking like this?!" Stripping herself of her shirt, Akari winced, looking at the purple love bites fading from her chest. When was the last time she'd been with him? It had to have been before his betrayal

'Ah, right after that massacure with that one building Chrollo asked us to destroy'

Even as it had been not even a month ago, a pang of nostalgia hit her and she immediately tore her gaze from the mirror.

"I don't need to be thinking about this." Muttering to herself Akari continued to undress, carelessly dropping the pile of clothes on the floor before she stepped into the shower, water now scalding.

Her eyes fluttered shut, taking in the warmth as her arms tightened around herself in a hug.

"This was the right choice." "I didn't make a mistake." "He doesn't deserve my sympathy, saying all of that shit to me." "I'll be better off." "I'll be able to find Chrollo, reunite the Troupe."

Repeating the words over and over didn't seem to ease the worry growing in her stomach, but there was nothing else she could do.

"This is stupid!" Shutting off the water, Akari glowered as she wrapped a towel around herself, flicking the light off.

Stepping back into the bedroom only made her wince, thinking about the time that they spent there. 'Does it hurt this much when the people are actually together?'

She'd had breakups before, nasty ones too, but this was different. This wasn't a breakup- they weren't together. So then why did it feel like it was-? Getting dumped couldn't compare to this, but not in the pain aspet. She wasn't even sure why there was a heavy feeling lingering on her body. 'All because of him'

Reaching into her drawers, the ravenette pulled out an oversized gray hoodie, quickly letting it fall over her head and then grabbing a pair of shorts from another drawer.

Akari collapsed onto the bed, eyes shutting and rubbing her throat while muttering, "God this fucking sucks." This whole experience was so draining...so she did the most natural thing. Sleep.

She slept until she dreamed, rolling over onto her side as the images flooded her head. This was a drawback of Whisper, she knew, the drowsiness.

Then a knock sounded at her door. At first she thought she was still dreaming, the colors still swimming around in her head.

When she heard it the second time too, honestly she didn't quite hear it, still lounging on her sheets.

Yet as the pounding increased and by the third, loud set of knocks, Akari could a hundred percent guarantee this wasn't her imagination.

"I'm coming!" Yelling at the door she slid off the bed, rubbing a hand down her face as she muttered, "Holy fuck."

On stumbling legs Akari reached the door, cracking it open then immediately shutting it.

"I thought I told you to go away?"

Akari didn't know what to do. Did Whisper wear away that quickly?

A muffled response sounded through the door, voice pleading- "Don't send me away agai-" "Shut the fuck up."

Quickly locking the door, the worried girl shuffled away from the door as her arms wrapped around herself. It was true that Whisper could wear off...but it'd never worn off so quickly for such a small command.

She knew how her nen worked, hell she'd been using it since she was born, but this enigma of events was starting to throw her off.

"Shut up." The whisper barely escaped her lips as she recalled trying to use Whisper against Hisoka...and it failing. Miserably.

Silence eliminated from her room. The magician wasn't saying anything and neither was she, a feeling of dread flooding through her. "I need you to leave Hisoka." A mutter of protest was heard but she cut it off abruptly.

"I don't care what you're trying to say, but I don't want you here."

It was quiet again, Hisoka thinking over his options, or rather the only option given to him. She didn't know why he was back-didn't care. But this would be the last time she put up with his shit.

And then he spoke, and she didn't stop him.

"My love, please listen to me." The ravenette didn't respond, instead opting for staying silent as the magician paused, waiting for her to interrupt. A small " thank you" was murmured before he started talking again.

Taking a short breath of air, the man started speaking again with Akari sitting on the edge of her bed now, intently listening.

"Don't send me away again." Hisoka repeated, words now lilting in a sad manner. "I was-it was wrong of me to leave you like that, alone, after challenging Chrollo." "And betraying the Troupe." The hiss slipped through her lips and she was sure he didn't hear it, though his speech paused.

"And I'm sorry."

"For what?" Akari called back, glowering at the door, arms draping over her knees.

Twiddling his thumbs, the magician leaned against the door, breathing softly as her question rang through his ears. What was he sorry for? He didn't regret betraying the Troupe to fight Chrollo, and didn't mind having played her 'feelings'.

The only thing he was genuinely sorry for was not being able to fight his boss and...and implying that it was her own fault that she'd been- Hisoka winced as the images of her stomach flashed through his head. Yeah, he didn't mean that one.

Maybe it was best to pretend?

"I'm sorry," Gulping slowly, the redhead continued with lies seeping from his mouth. "-for betraying the Troupe, and you!" He added quickly. "I'm sorry for breaking your trust and-"

"Open the door, I want to see your fucking face as you lie to me."

Hearing soft footsteps, the man took a step back, looking down as the door unlocked to see familiar black hair and...angry brown eyes.
