Chp. 5 - When All Hell Breaks Loose

Out in the Gallimimus Valley, a heard flocks together with a tour Jeep driving beside them, amused tourists inside the vehicle as they look ahead. Halle and Aniya were among those tourists looking out onto the scenery. Though Aniya was excited to be here, she was still battling the realities of her life back home. Because Halle was closer to her than Chloe was, she could tell that her niece had a lot on her mind. She brought her hand on the young girl's knee before the two locked eyes.

"What you thinkin' about, baby?" the dread headed woman asked.

"Since my parents are getting divorced," Aniya responded, "I'll most likely be shared between them, won't I? Half the year, I'll be with my mom, and the other half I'll be with my dad..."

Halle's heart sank at the question. Her and Chloe went through the same thing with their parents when they were her age. That's how they got exposed to Jurassic Park in the first place – a loved one cared for them enough to take them out of a highly toxic space that most divorces created. When the Bailey sisters heard that their brother and his wife had filed for divorce, they immediately made the decision to come scoop their only niece and bring joy back into her life. It's what she deserved, at the very least.

"You know," Halle said, "your Aunt Chloe and I have gone through this ourselves. Your dad wasn't born yet, so he only heard stories. It was rough for us, too. That's when your Great Uncle Mark brought us to Jurassic Park."

"The first one?" Aniya asked, her eyes wide with wonder.

"The very first," Halle smiled. "It was amazing...the park wasn't finished yet, but he had such a beautiful vision for that place. If things had gone like he wanted, it would still be up and running today. But, a lot of times, greedy people get in the way of divine purpose. So, the park was shut down before it could even start. But that's why your aunt and I created Jurassic World. The whole point of bringing dinosaurs back into existence was to show people that we're not the center of the universe – that life offers so much more than what our brains can comprehend. Keeping true to that mission is what's making this park so successful. That, and two of the greatest paleontologists we've ever met."

"Besides you?"

Halle laughed beside herself.

"Yes, besides me. Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Hansen. Your aunt and I looked up to them when we were kids. They helped us a lot with mapping out genomes and DNA of nearly every species we have in this park."

"Wow..." Aniya said, impressed, "...that's amazing...you think he would be proud of what you and Aunt C accomplished? Uncle Mark?"

Halle looked to the mood ring the Korean-American gifted to her a couple years before he passed, smiling at it as it changed color under the sun.

"I think so..." she said.

Aniya smiled at her aunt before the two continued to enjoy their day. Meanwhile, Chloe had finally made it back to the innovation center, entering the control room breathlessly. The atmosphere was somber and filled with fear as everyone looked to her with wild eyes.

"Everyone...remain...calm..." she said slowly, "...the implant will shock it if it gets too close to a perimeter fence."

"Okay..." Lowery said, still observing the monitor, "...it's moving really fast."

"This is control," Vivian announced in her headset. "Put out a park-wide alert-"

"Hang up that damn phone, please!" Masrani ordered.

"Sorry..." Vivian replied to the people on the other line, "...I'm getting new information. Everything is fine."

"Let Asset Containment capture it quietly," the man said. "The very existence of this park is predicated on our ability to handle incidents like this. It was an eventuality, okay?"
