Chp. 10 - The Plot Thickens

"Hey!" Hoskins called out to one of the raptors. "Right here...right here..."

Barry looked at the man in pure rage as he stood back, helplessly witnessing a team of men cage the raptor siblings.

"She looks at what she wants," he said. "Usually what she wants to eat."

Upon hearing car doors slam shut behind them, Hoskins and Barry turn around to see Megan, Chloe, Halle, and Aniya rush toward them, Megan angrily leading the charge.

"Ah," Hoskins smirked, "the mother hen has finally arrived."

The Texan punched Hoskins square in his jaw, everyone else looking on and groaning at the sight.

"Stay the fuck away from my animals!" the ebony yelled.

"You wanted this to happen," Chloe chimed in.

"Jesus!" Hoskins exclaimed as he attempted to straighten out his jaw. "How many more people have to die before this mission starts to make sense to you!?"

"It's not a mission," Barry said to the man. "It's a field test."

"This is an InGen situation, now," Hoskins said. "There are gonna be cruise ships that show up here at first light. Everybody's gonna get off this island. You're gonna watch a news story tomorrow about how you all saved lives. Better yet, how your animals saved lives!"

"These raptors have never been out of containment," Halle pointed out. "This whole mission...field test...whatever the hell you're passing it off as, is crazy! This can easily turn into a disaster!"

Completely ignoring the young CEO's warning, Hoskins turned to address the rest of InGen's team.

"Let's move it out!" he yelled before looking at Megan. "This is happening. With or without you."

Megan looked to the Bailey sisters in regret as Hoskins walked away.

"As dumb as he is," she told them, "he does have a point. No manpower can take this thing down. The raptors are our last resort."

Chloe released a distressed sigh before looking to her sister, Halle nodding her way.

"We'll do whatever we can to help," the dread headed woman told Megan.

With a single nod, the Texan went to talk with some of the InGen soldiers to explain the mission, Chloe, Halle, and Aniya following suit.

"We know that she's in sector five," Megan said, referring to the Indominus. "This is a game we call hide-and-seek. It's a scent drill. We've done it about a thousand times with these animals. When they get on target...and they will get on target...wait to engage. Velociraptors are pack hunters. They like to herd the animal into a kill zone. That's when we take our shot. Get a clear shot, wait on my command, and give her everything you got. We got one good target, gentlemen. Do not shoot my raptors!"

She dismissed the men, watching them disperse before catching eyes with Blue. She saw the animal was riled up, so the Texan went to her and tried to calm her.

"Easy, Blue..." she said, "...easy...there you go, good girl..."

Blue immediately calmed her body at the sound of Megan's voice. Chloe observed the scene and smiled beside herself. She always knew Megan had an authoritative side, but she never witnessed it in this capacity. She didn't realize she was in a daze until she felt her sister nudge her arm.

"Stop drooling," Halle chuckled.

Chloe playfully rolled her eyes before walking over to Megan.

"They'll be okay," she said, "right?"
