It's been a short while
And it's official.

But it feels right.

She smiles
When she thinks of them.

The one
She is beginning
To give her heart to.

But her fear remains.

Her past continues to plague her thoughts.

Sometimes she's afraid
To look in the mirror
At what she felt was tainted.

Taken advantage of
When she gave her heart
And body
To the one she led to believe
She could trust.

The word no
Slipped past their ears it seemed,
Or maybe they never cared
To listen.

Her shoves didn't matter.

She froze
And so she broke a little that day.

She cried inside
And screamed.

No one noticed
How she looked for help.

What would he think
If he sees me?
Inside and out.

Her fear of her past haunts her.

But her new lover seems bothered by it.

That they only care
How it impacts them
And their newfound bond.

But not her fear.

Not her pain.

Not the tears
That streamed down her cheeks
For o'so many nights.

Not for the times
She scrubbed her body
Til' it was red,
Hoping to get the feeling off.

The feeling of brokenness.

The feeling of being tainted.

She thought she was healed,
But I suppose old wounds
Become scars.

And scars are a reminder,
Are they not?

She hoped for comfort,
But instead her pain was treated
Like a burden.

But she stays.

Yet,
Her newfound lover
Makes her smile.

Her excitement of a new beginning
With this person
Feels right.

For she hopes
That this official bond
Will last.
