The love she holds
For her lover remains,
But her will begins to diminish.
The will and hope
That they can reunite
And continue their lives together
In harmony.
O'how she wishes to stay,
But her mind knows
That the damage is done.
The scars remain
And the self-esteem her lover broke
Is starting to build back up
Again.
"This is a lesson" they say.
But she wonders why lessons
Must be so cruel.
O'the many supposed lessons
She's learned
Have left scars
On her heart.
Yet,
Why does she hold on?
Why does she hold on
To a lover that doesn't pick up the phone
When she calls?
To a lover with different values
And beliefs.
Her lover believes
The love truly does conquer all.
But she knows better.
Her scars are a reminder of that.
As are her nightmares.
Her reminders keep her sane.
Yet,
They also hold her hostage
At times.
They keep her locked away
In her own mind.
The mind can be a dangerous thing,
You see.
Who she is, is but an example of that.
Why does she hold on
When all she wants is peace;
For her heart to heal;
And for a love that causes no harm.
