She never meant
For her partner to meet
Some of her family
So soon.
It was an accident
Really.
He seems alright with it.
Happy even.
She wondered if the same thing
Would happen to her.
Yet
She felt,
At least a moment,
That he was secretive of her.
Of their relationship.
So she asked why.
She never meant
For it to turn into an argument.
Never meant for it to go so far.
Never meant to pressure
The one she now loved
Into meeting those he held dear.
So she came to a logical conclusion
To let him decide when.
The last thing she wanted
Was to force him.
To make him uncomfortable.
A line to meet them
Was a line she wasn't ready
To cross.
It seemed odd to her
But after a while she agreed.
Maybe she was wrong?
Maybe she had a warped idea?
She didn't know.
Meeting family so soon
Was never in the cards for her,
But words slipped
And arguments started.
Oh how she wished
She could go back in time
And restart.
But at least it's the past.
Right?
