Jake's P.O.V
I felt like I was going to be sick. How did Amy manage to show up and ruin everything in the matter of one night? Things were going perfectly, and she spends a few hours alone with Jess and now she's suddenly second guessing everything. It was hard enough to get her to trust me this much, now I know she is never gonna stop thinking about that Amy said.
I felt the bus stop, and made my way out into the main area. It was empty except for Amy sitting alone at the table. She looked up and flashed me a smile. I felt my cheeks burn with anger.
"Where is everyone?" I asked. She shrugged, looking towards the door.
"They all went out to look around I guess. It's just us." She said, holding her stare on me.
"Perfect." I mumbled. She patted the spot next to her.
"Come sit." I shook my head.
"No. Where's Jess?" I asked, looking out the front window. I couldn't see any of the guys, let alone her."Why can't you just come and sit with me. We haven't had a chance to really talk about everything that happened." She whined. I rolled my eyes.
"Because I don't want to talk to you about anything. I have nothing to say to you. Especially after you were telling Jess all of that shit last night." Her smile grew."Oh, it's true and you know it Jake. That's just how you are. It's best to just admit so she's not blindsided like I was when you eventually move on to the next one." I glared back at her.
"It's not like that with her." I said plainly. Her eyes got wide as she crossed her arms, leaning back in her chair.
"Whatever you say, Jake. But it's cruel to lie to her. She should be ready for when the next girl-"
"There isn't going to be a next girl." I snapped. She stared up at me, taken back. I could feel my heart racing. I hated that Amy was the first person I was really admitting this to.But I had no interest in being with anyone else.
"Funny.. that's what she said too." She said softly, picking at the food in front of her. My cheeks burned. She felt this way too?
"Well, she didn't really seem to think so after her conversation with you." I said.
"Then maybe she's smarter than she looks." She said, looking back up at me, her evil smile plastered across her face. "I told her that honestly, I thought she would be better off with Josh. You should hear the way he talks about her. He writes about her all the time, he's much better for her than you." She said smugly. My stomach dropped."Josh? But I thought you two-" She shook her head.
"No." She said simply. "Him and I talked after we broke up. He was sweet and comforting, but.. he's not my type. I'm just here to make sure she doesn't make the same mistakes I did. Actually, I think she's off with him right now. I saw them leave together."My heart sank. Was this their plan the whole time? After everything that's happened, Jess would still go off with him? My heart was racing.
"Where'd they go?" I snapped. She laughed to herself, rolling her eyes.
"I have no idea. But like I'd tell you if I did. Just leave them alone. He can make her happy."
"I make her happy." She shrugged, looking away.
"She might think that now, until she sees what real happiness feels like." I sighed, making my way back into the back room quickly getting dressed."Where are you going?" She yelled after me. I ignored her, tying my hair into a loose bun and quickly hopped down the stairs of the bus. The last thing I needed was them spending any time alone together.
Jess's P.O.V
I followed Josh as he lead me towards the venue, opening one of the side doors and helping me inside.
"Have you guys ever played here before?" I asked, looking around. It was dark so I followed close.
"Honestly, I don't remember." He laughed. "They all eventually start to look the same after a while."
"I couldn't imagine getting used to a life like this." I sighed.
"It's incredible, don't get me wrong. But.. sometimes you miss.. consistency. You miss knowing where you actually are every day. It's weird waking up and not knowing what city you're in."I guess he had a point. For the most part, I never really had to worry about that kind of stuff. Sure, I had photographed tours before, but I always had a decent amount of time between them to get readjusted. Sometimes they could be on the road for years at a time.
I couldn't imagine how they felt.
"So, where are we going?" I laughed. "I mean, if you don't even know where we are." He peeked back at me, smirking.
"I've been in enough venues to know.. aha, here we go." He said, taking me by the hand and leading us backstage. I looked down at our hands, feeling my cheeks burn. It felt wrong, but I couldn't bring myself to let go.I sat down as he grabbed one of the guitars, sitting close across from me. He looked up, flashing me a smile.
"I don't know how you got me to do this again." He sighed. "You sure you wanna hear another one?" I nodded, feeling my cheeks burn. He smiled, looking down at his guitar.
"You gonna run off again this time?" He asked quietly, peeking up at me with a smirk.I could feel my cheeks burning. I was so taken back the last time he played a song for me, I didn't know how to react. I think part of me was scared of how I felt, scared that I would do something I might regret, no matter how much I wanted to. My eyes moved down to his lips, and then quickly let his gaze again.
"No." I laughed, biting down on my lip. He nodded.
"Alright then.. here you go." He sighed.
He always looked.. so different when he was singing. Especially alone.
Especially when we were alone.
The idea of him sitting up and writing this, all the while I was with Jake, made my heart sink. Despite everything I said, everything I did, he still felt this way? But why?
When he finished, he waited a minute before looking back up at me, his cheeks getting redder. He gave me a subtle smile as he placed the guitar down next to him, leaning towards me. I bit down on my lip, staring back, feeling a smile spread across my lips.
"You're.. really good." I said quietly. His smile grew into a toothy grin.
"Thank you." He said, looking down. "You make it easy." My heart started beating faster.
"Josh, I.. I don't know what to do about this." I muttered.
"I know. But.. I can be patient. I'm in no rush."
"That's not fair to you." He shrugged.
"I don't mind.""I.. I think Jake told me.. I was.. the one today." I blurted out. His face dropped as he slowly backed away.
"Oh." He sighed. "Well.. how do you feel about that?"
"I don't know. I.. I ran out." He giggled to himself.
"That sounds like you." He said, smirking back up at me. I couldn't help but smile.
"Shut up." I said, playfully shoving him. He laughed, shoving me back."Well, that is what you did to me." He said, his eyes getting wide. I nodded, looking away.
"I know.. I'm sorry." He shrugged.
"The Kiszka boys are romantics, we can be a little much. But.. we know what we want." He laughed, reaching out for my hand again. I looked down as he slowly intertwined our fingers.
"Yeah, maybe I'll have a better shot with Sam." I laughed. He scrunched up his face, smirking back at me.
"I know you're kidding but.. I still don't like it." He laughed.
"Don't worry.." I sighed. He held his stare on me, his eyes in a daze."You should know.. it's taking everything in me not to kiss you right now." He said quietly, leaning in close. It felt like my entire body was on fire. This is typically when I would run, but I forced myself to stay.
"Me too." I whispered, looking away.
"Really?" He asked. I nodded, avoiding his eyes.
"Well.. you can if you want to." He said, leaning in even closer, now inches from my face. It felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest. But I just couldn't.
He reached over, holding my face in his hands.
"Josh.." He stopped, looking back into my eyes. I gently shook my head. He sighed.
"It's still him?" He asked. I bit down on my lip, nodding. He moved away, staring back at me with sad eyes.
"Well, like I said.. I don't mind waiting."
